Democratic Stale Chairman. S :ne of the Democratic papers

are dltCQMlOS who shall succeed

Mr. Martin as chairman of the Democrat:.' State Committee The

Coukiek thinks it i somewhat premature, a- Mr. Martin has not vet

dignified bia intention to retire from

the position and the Democracy of

the S:at" are generally very well sat-i-tied with hi conduct uf the la.-t Campaign, and that the failure tu carry the ate at the election was not due to Iii management but rather to the seductiveness of money, and gold-bugism. And fromindications at present the result will be the same next year, regardless of who is chairman. The Democracy must be a party of education, and work for averted principles and policies as proclaimed by National convention, rather than for mere possession of the public otlices and loot,

before it can reasonably hope for

success at the polls. However, some mighty good men are mentioned as suitable for the Chairmanship, and among them none better than Hon. J, J. Not. an, of Evansville, who possesses the organizing ability, and the extei.- . acquaintance ovi-r tin- State, and the force of personal character and honor, with a power of persuavincss that all go to make an ideal chairman, and achieve success, if that is possible. If Mr. Martin desires to retire, the Democracy of the State Convention will make no mistake by contiding the chairmanship to Mr. Nolan. The "common peo

ple" of all parties recognize him as one of their brethren, who would further their interests rather than those of the millionaire corporations, and this would bring strength to the party in the canvas- and it needs all the strength it can muster. The UepublicaM will tie in favor of the capitalized Tru-ts.

Win the scandalous ease originating in circuit court against Frank Olding lof whipping a woman in Ferdinand township, became he alleged she was a witch, he plead guilty to a charge of A. A. !., and Judge Ely took the case under ad visement. Many a voung man has been "'bewitched" by a good looking woman, but it is very seldom in thi- enlightened day that witchery is alleged as a reason for horsewhipping. If the law permitted it he should be ducked severa.1 times in the mill pond, as agoodeitfC for his hallucination. He would not likely, then, horsewhip another woman soon.

Women as Well as Men Are Made Miserable by Kidney Trouble.

I

Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, discourages and lessens ambition, beauty, vigor

and cneertuiness soon disappear when the kidneys are out of order or diseased. Kidney trouble has become so prevalent that It is not uncommon lor a child to be born afflicted with weak kidneys. If the child urinates too often, if the

urine scalds the flesh or if. when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the pa&tage. it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, depend upon it. the cause of the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these important organs. This unpleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition cf the kidneys and bladder and not u a habit as most people suppose. Women as well as men are made miserable with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy. The mild and the immediate effect of Swan-Root is soon realized. It Is sold

The big new enterprise9 started work auspiciously, with natural gas for fuel. The town will probably double its population before the first of January, and numerous residences ate being built to accommodate new citizens.
