J AM' KK, DUBOIS COl'NTT, INDIANA. KoirJ at tht PoitoBc t Jaiptr Indians, for ran m imIod through t hi mail road cl a., matur. FRIDAY, Al'tUST J, liHU. It jroa liMV mi) lurnl mm, or want y printing, rail it thriia"li the OtuW I'huuf. 13-. 1 REMARKABLE QIIBBUNQ. Mr. S. E. Mont, of the Indianapolis Sentinel, has four columns of quibbling in its last Monday 'a edition, trying to uvoid and ridicule quite a number of its democratic critics over Ul erroneous ideas in regard to the Ohio democratic platform, and what the party should do in 1894, If it follows the lead of the Sentinel the party will go to the devil to 1904, sure. It tells of a bargain between Boss Croker ami Boss Piatt, leaked nut at the Kansas City convention, and the reader will wonder if that bargain, or one similar in regard to Indiana, has been made between Boss Hanna, Boss McLean, Boss Durbin and would-be Boss Morss, as to the position the Democracy of Indiana should take in its next State convention, so as to make it impossible for the Democrats to carry the state for either State or Presidential tickets in 1904. To carry its assertions to the only h gical conclusion the Sentinel should go to hell and reuscitate Grover Cleveland for a democratic candidate in 1004. His administration stinks in the nostrils of all honest democrats today for his perfidious lieing and bold treachery to the platform upon which he was elected, and they have damned him, and all other New York and New Jersey so-called Democrats with him, for their adherence to his bullheaded policies, which ruined, and w as intended to kill the democracy, und pave the way for plutocracy to govern henceforth and forever, and the democracy would have retired from politics in 1896, had not the matchless and honest Bryan, with his great eloquence and political discernment, have instilled new life into it. The Sentinel in its article, which, by the way, is a very readable one, leaving out its reference to "I'ncle Dan McDonald,'' who was an active democrat before Morss was thought of, presents in the best light possible the propositions of the boltars in 1890 and 1900, to the Democracy to let them come back and lead the party once more. The Democracy don't want them back. They were traitors at a critical time, and if permitted to lead again, or even take part in Democratic counsels, honest masses of Democrats would prefer voting a straight Republican ticket, and are likely to do so. The Clevelands, Olueys, Dave Hills, Bynums, Crokers, Jewetts, Wattersona, Haldemans. Frenzels, et omnes genus, have had their day, and should retire to the eternal shades of oblivion. But if the Sentinel succeeds in getting the Democracy of one campaign to see its "principles" then advocated called "policies" tht next time, it should come out bold ly for Cleveland for president, Watterson for vice-president, W. D. Bynnm for Congress in the Indianapolis district ; Charlie Jewett for governor; Hugh Dougherty for lieutenant-governor; J. P. Frenzel for treasurer of state, and others like them for the other ollices, and possibly Mr. Morss, though not an ofl'ice seeker, might he induced to lead a forlorn hope in some position on the ticket as it would be the farthest removed from ofl'ice seeking as the people would repudiate it almost unamiouslv. Hut go on with your cart driving. Democrats will stand and see where you are trying to drive them, without making any effort to control, and then let their votes drop in the ballot box silently but surely, as each individual may determine for himself. . SfThere came pretty near being an ice famine in Jatper last Saturday, ice cream and ice cold soda being unattainable on account of it. But dealers obtained enouah for Sunday demand, and a car load WM received Monday. Some of the people realized they had better taken up with the Belleville man' proposal, and had plenty of ice to ship to other towns as well as supplying home demand. That man made a fair proposition. aVMrs. Wm. Moenkhaus, moth er of county treasurer Moenkhaus, and a large family of others, died at her home in Huntinpburg last week, and was buried Sunday. She was an old lady and commanded high respect of all acquaint ences.

JorThe Cincinnati Kn. purer if one of the best nkws gatherers in the West, but politically it is very corrupt. It endeared itself to the Republicans of Indiana at the last Democratic National convention held in Ciiu innati, when UoLMB prevented the nomination ot Thomas A. Hendricks for l'reident, be cause the latter refused to make a bargain with him, and the Democrats have failed t carry Ohio ever since, and alwav - will fail when the Enquirer leads. QUAMTCBLY laJCKTUYG The 4th quarterly meeting on this M. K district, will be held at Mt. .ion, Cass township, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2 I and Jö. '1 he offioisl meeting will be at 2 o'clock. Saturday. All the offi W aie re requested to be present and every body is invited. The lit. Zioi neighborhood is noted for its hospi tality and all who attend will ! cordially welcomed. On Sundav the meeting will be held in the grove, and a basket dinner will be had and a large attendance is expected. In a letter from Bro. Priest to the CoUKIEK editor he says he enjoyed his trip to San r rancisco gieatlv. and the Kpworth League convention was a great inspiration for a preacher and in ftct every one pre sent. He also relates an incident of the trip oversaving "We remained one night at Kl I'aso, Texas, and about twenty of us tourists crossed the Kio (irande into old Mexico. It made us feel far from home when instead of the Stars and Stripes there waved over our heads the old Mexican ilag. On returning the revenus collector stopped us and demanded w hat goods we had purchased. A man from Ohio told him we had no dutiable goods in our possession ; that we were simply a party of tourist.- on our way to California. The collector loosed curiously upon us, with doubt, but quietly withdrew without further investigation." Suppose there was a tariff between each of the states, as the sugar trust has enforced between our Spanish possessions, this annoyance would occur at every state line. Relieves and cures La Grippe. Diso. On Monday, July 20, 1901, Chios Harbara. aged one and seven days, child of Mr. John Himsel and wife. The burial took place Tuesday, at the Jasper grave yard, Rev, Mr Kienle officiating . The bereaved parents bftTS the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends in their deep allliction. But they mourn not as those without hope, for they know their child has gone to a hap pier clime, and is safely cared for in a Savior's loving arms, and that when they shall get there they will meet aud clasp it to them again.
