THE LOVE LETTERS OF AN IRISH LASSIE. (Aii Hiirtits laoavvoi I LKTTKK PI PTIKN. -Concluded, present I love you well and truly enough to leave all eUe and be you is forever. Frank, we have not met und POSWffd with euch other for several years, and the past few years have brought its changes. And is it right that we should enter upon such solemn vows before we meet again? I still give you hope and courage. I know that I love you more than a brother, but as for a wife's love I ca.mot fay, and don't kn w whether ever can unless you come to see me, :md I can sit by your side and talk to you. I beli'.ve, Frank, what you hsve said is true. Your love would be nothing but unhappimss if I did not return it. And 1 hope I can return it. If Miss L. was not in the same city with you, and if she had not gained your admiration, 1 don't think it would take you long to decide whether you would come to nee nie or not. Hut she is the mysterious drawback, whether for food or evil, will be revealed in the future. I hope to hear from you soon. Write me a real, real long letter the next time. 1 have not told you near all I want to but will have to close. Che. r up, dear boy, and think of the poetical fact, that behind the clouds the sun is still shining, and into eich life some rain must fall, some days be daik and dreary. Write toon, and may livid bloss you, dearest bo), is the sincere wish of your devoted LfXUI. LETTER SIXTEEN, March 1, 10 DlARKBT Fkank: This beuutiful evening I seat myself in my boudoir to answer your loving letter, which came this morning. Ob! 1 was so happy when I glanced at the well known hand write. Ln reply to your question about that por'y, one of the boys referred to was Henry l'aullera, the first fellow I ever went with any length of time, i. e , my regular company. I had room to think he cared something for me, and I didn't care a snap of my ßnger for him aud don't to this day, so 1 gave him the O. B. hut he has gone with me quite a good deal since. Just now and then he would take me to some place, and once in a great while call ; hut that is his own lookout, for I told him in plain words I didn't care anything 'nore for him than as a friend and never would. But he is always guying me about other fellows. The other was Frank Walters, he is a real cute and mart little fellow. He was Eva's fellow at the same time Harry was mine, and we four used to have hi ge times together. Frank and Harry got it into their heads, or somebody insinuated to them, that I had a fellow away from here, and they said in Chicago, so I soon threw them off of their guard. They often say something about it, especially Frank, but they don't know anything definite. George Davis has also got the idea in his head that I have a loving correspondent somewhere, and often asks about him. (ieorge has called on me several times since last summer. And one time in talking to Eva, he told her that he liked me better than any girl he ever went with. Frank, I don't see how he can, after 1 treated him as contemptuous as I did. I do wish he didn't like me. Frank, don't think, when I tell you all this, that I am boasting. If I thought you would think i was I would not have told you all I have. I could tell you a great deal more, but 1 know you are tired of what I have said. I don't like too much conceit, Frank, but I don't think you have an extra stock on hand; and perhaps if you haven't you had better get in a new supply. It takes cheek and conceit to get along in this world. Now, dear Frank, don't misinterpret my iceuing. For instance, take a young lady that has a great deal ol talent for music, yet who is so bashful that she absolutely cannot exhibit her talent before her teacher, until her instructor concludes that she hasn't any. I believe in making a strong effort to find out what you can do. But you will never lind out if you sit with your hands folded. Frank, you speak of Miss L, as a doll, a plaything, a sickly, pretty, terribly spoiled girl. Well, when you see me you need not expect to see a doil, a pretty or a spoiled girl. I never played with dolls let alone be one. I would rather stroll through the woods and study the beauties and wonders of nature, although I did not know how to appreciate them then as I do now. Country girls don't have the chance of beingspoiled like town girls do. CJrace is the spoiled one of our family. You say boys will be boys no matter where they roam. Well, I guess they will, and I think they are mighty queer machinep, too, and I presume they have about the same opinion of the girls. I had an invitation to go to church with a young gentleman to-night, but did not accept. I would a hundred times rather stay at home and write to you. The gentleman that requested my company is a very fine young nan and is highly respected. He is a young storekeeper and I ought to feel very highly honored, as I was the first girl he ever went with. I presume he is abjut 22 or '23 years old. 1 went with him to an entertainment this winter, and everybody was thunder-struck to see Clarence D. bringing a lady to an entertainment. But, dear Frank, I am not the least bit stuck on him. I will tell you sometime his reason for not going with the girls, and I think they are very sensible ones, too. Dear boy, I was doubly repaid when you stated that you had taken to heart all that I said in my previous letter, and I wish I had time to nay something on the same subject this time, but 1 will soon have to close. My sincere prayer is that you will become a devoted christian. God bless you. I wish I had more time and thought to put on these letters ; but I know you will excuse all of my terrible mistakes. Well, dear Frank, I could keep on writing for the next two hours, but I will absolutely have to close. Write soon, and be a real good boy. Write me a good long letter, like the last one. So bye bye. I am yours devotedly, LtLLII, (To be continued.)
