A Nor ABIE Anmvkks !(y. fo. day, May 3d, i- th 38th anniversary of the battle of Cbanoellotfille, 'a., one of the bloodiatt o! the Civil war, and in which Co. K, of the J7th Ind. 'ols., lost Is, killeil and wounded. The survivors of Co. K, of Jasper and vicinity, always rememher the date, as they lo-t over one-third of the men in their company engaged that day. The regiment captured '1D rebel soldiers during the engagement. The 27tfa lost more men in thin battle than Cien. Miles did in his whole campaign in Porto Kico, in killed and wounded, and no one starved, like they do now in Porto Kico. DR. kEMPI S REPORT. At the request of Dr. Ii. H. Hranbock, Secretary of the Hoard of Health of Dubois county, I visited Jefferaoa township with Dr. ). A. Uighatn, of St. Anthony, ;,, sie several cases which he had dJagOored as smallpox. I -an Willis Holli.-, Mays Cummins and his wife. The

lir-t had a very severe attack of conriinmt smallpox, the other two bad severe cases of discrete smallpox. d'iiere are in all ffifrfflftt ftftnnn CNIW of smallpox in Jefferson town-hip of a very mild type, NO much so that it mi-ded the people and the attending physician, who mistook it for Cu ban Itch whatever that is. My opinion is that except a few scattered severe cases the smallpox will not be severe, and is of the same nature as is now sweeping over the State. My advice was that everybody man, woman and child, rieb orpoof, of norti al mind or idiotic, be vaccinated and at ouce. I ordered the affected boQSa to be Magged and piarantined, and every case be reported. Dr. Iligbam agreed to act as deputy health oMicer, and give all the advice either needed or wanted, tod the doctor is wtll ab'e to take care of that neck of the woods, even if it is hilly and rocky. The disia-e was brought in from Perry OOOtttj, where it is now epidemic near Siberia. They call it the ( 'uban Itch oral tin re. I do not think tliere is much in a name. Call it BoaallDox or Cuban

Itch, it is not a very plea-ant disease to have, especially ns all Iboef who get it bad, lose all 'h ir close frietMU at OnOB. The Secreta.-y .,f the P. lard of Health !- the önl f friend a smallpox pitient has left. To him he appeals, but his advice and diro t ons ar never followed. Du E. J. Ki mi .
