town. There are a number of kinds which would pay stockholders on the investment, and good factories of all kinds are what builds up a town, and keeps it growing. WThe proposition of the town board to buy a tire alarm system for Jasper should be well considered before the committee makes a purchase. Fire alarm systems cost all the way from f 1,500 to 125,000. Would it pay our people to put one in at these figures? They are a good thing in large cities, but the systems are all patented, and several Indiana cities compromised law suits against them in the I'. S. courts for infringements of patents, and some are yet pending. It will be well to be careful before buying, and not buv a law-suit.

Town Election". And now candidates for offices to be filled at the coming May town election are being talked about, and the committeemen will son fix the date for the Democratic primary. Before then interested tax-payers and business men, whose taxes or losses must pay the bills, should determine that business men, who conduct their own affairs successfully, and pay taxes, thould be nominated for Trustees. There are three to elect, and they should be mtn who will not run the towu largely in d-bt. Jasper should not put on city -tyles too fast, or its growth will be retarded. This week Mr. Kasper Hatter announces his willingness to serve the people as Marshal. Since his retirement from the saloon business last year, he has been a "gentleman of leisure," and most fjlks presumed he had made enough money to live easy, but it seems he wants a hard job for the Marshal's uflice. properly tilled, is no sinecure. The Courier thinks he would make a good Marshal if elected. Who next? Safely in Jail at Jasper Are the Reeves mm. Sheriff Castrup and deputy brought the Iteeves men, accused of the murder of John R. Gardner and W'm. Cox, deputy sheriffs, in 1885, to Huntingburg yesterdav morning on the 10:50 train from Louisville, and brought them to Jasper on the afternoon train. At Huntingburg a crowd of over 100 met the train, and the prisoners were safely lodged in the city lockup till time for the afternoon train to Jasper. At Jasper a big crowd met them, also, but by this time they were convinced it was only curiosity, and that the Sheriff had taken all proper precautions. It is said the crowd at Huntingburg was larger than the one which attended the mintrel show there Tuesday night. If the Snerifl could get them to do a song and dance act at Kästners opera house, he could easily make back the expense he has been put to, and probably have some money over to help them pay expenses for their defense at court It would be a "drawing" entertainment, and without any danger to Um accused.

Tie Reeves Men to be Brought to Jasper to be Tried for killing Gardner and Cox. Sheriti Castrup Waited to Frank
