THE LOVE LETTERS OP AN IRISH LASSIE. (All Mights Reserved ) LETTER THREE. Ikki.am, Ind., September '25, 19 Deak Fmank: Please excuse me foi writing to you before receiving a reply to my last letter. It is just two weeka yesterday since I wrote to you. Time flies like the chaff before the wind, end lo, the world goes on leaving me in deepest obscurity of thoughts to why I have not heard from you. lt teems like a young century had paed away since 1 received your last welcon.e ai d highly appreciated letter. Did you receive my missive? And are you tired of my weary and monotonous correspondence? If so, speak out candidly about it. I have been looking every day for a letter from you but no letter yet. I do wish you were here for the fair. I was up yesterday and had a very pleasant time. It is lovely weather, I thought of you and wished you were here. I expressed my wish to Eva and she taid the same. They say the fair is very good. I can not say, for I have not seen very much; Eva and 1 are going up again at noon. A young gentleman is going to send a buggy around for us; isn't he kind? I do wish you were here. 1 know we would have a good time. I was to a show last night, but it wasn't very good I wish a real good one would come along. I think it is strange that you did not get my letter; I would not have written again until I received a reply if I had not thought perhaps it wa rniscanicd. I wrote a dozen pages, which is more than I ever wrote in one letter before in uiy life, twelve pages, nucb as it was. Well, I must close, as it is time I was preparing my toilet for the fair. Dear Krank, I do hope you will pardon me for writing this letter if you received my other letter; but I could not imagine why you did not write, unlets you did not receive my letter. Hoping I may hear from you soon, I remain, your loving LlLLSB. . -

LETTER FOUR. Ireland, Ind., Octobers, 19 . Dearest Frank: On returning home this evening 1 found the long looked foi letter waiting for me. Believe me, dear Frank, when I say that I never read a letter with more heartfelt feeling and tympathy in my life. Indeed I did not laugh, I read and read until I was completely lost in thought, and when I got through, I declare if the letter hadn't been there I would have thought that some parts of it was all a dream. How am I to answer it? I don't know. Not because 1 don't want to. Already several attempts have been consumed in the flames. I cannot write any mor? until after tea, and maybe I cau collect my thoughts a little then. 7 P. M. Well, I will make another attempt, but contrary to what I thought it would be; my head is almost bursting with pain and my hands are so stiff with cold that I can hardly hold to my pen, and I cannot tell the feeling of my heart. I don't think it necessary to state that your letter worried me, if you will only believe my former words, I think you can judge the atate of mind I am laboring under. And I don't expect there will be any change until I hear from you again. Frank, I cannot take any more time to think your letter over than I have, and that is very little. I will be obliged to write you what I can think of. I don't expect I can finish it to-night, for I am much fatigued, but will write what I can. I am so sorry that you did not tell me what it was that you did not like in my letter. I suppose you meant the one before the last. I wish you had, for perhaps I could rectify it; I would not say anything intentionally that would cause a cloud to obscure youi bright life for anything, but if it was in my power I would cast a silver lining over your present and future life. I am like you in regard to loving and not being loved in return. I know if a man should win my love and then not return it I would die of a broken heart. I have had enough experience in seeing othert. Three young men of Ireland have asked for my love. One in particular, how my heart did ache for that poor fellow, but I had to be hone.-t with him for my own sake. I did not love him, and I had never, never encouraged him in the least. He never was to see me but twice, and the first time my parents never left the room, but the second time they were not in. 1 never was so surprised in my life when he told me of his love. At first I did not believe it; it seemed impossible when I had never given him any room, at I thought, to think anything of me. But he said from the first time he had ever saw me he had loved me; and he said, that to think that he had cherished such a strong and deep love for me all in vain would ruin him. But I could not help it, as I did not care a snap of my finger for the fellow: and I don't think I done anything but right in telling him so. I was perfectly innocent of the fact. I had always tried to steer clear of such rocky coasts. I think it ia just terrible for a girl to encourage a fellow if she does not care for him, especially if she knows that he cares for her. But let me tell you, dear Frank, some girls will do just that very thing, and think it smart, and make their brags about it. But don't think I am so dithonorable at to do anything of the kind. Frank, you told me in your first letter that I could have a e'ear road againtt that Denver girl, if I would only accept. In your second letter you said, when I come to see you I hope you will give me a favorable answer. In your third letter you said, "I'm thinking, of course, you should take plenty of time and the matter will gradually develope." That is what I have been doing and had almost decided what your answer would be, and I thought if the next letter (this last letter) was like the rest had been, I would give you more encouragement ; but now I can't. I must quit ttlking sbout myself, please excuse for saying this much, but i had to. I am going to try and make you happy by expressing my idea of Miss L., and dear Frank, I hope I will succeed. It will be my endeavor to at any rate. I am led in (hie last letter to think that Miss L. is your ideal of a woman, and if she ia not entirely, it will not take much f(r her to become a real ideal. (To be continued.)
