"The State Life Insurance Co..
of Indianapolis, makes a splendid showing in its -ixth annual statement issued for the year ending Dec. 81, l'JOO. It has a surplus of 9361,776 over liabilities, and n half million dollars on deposit with the State Auditor to secure policy holder-, and paid 192,600 insurance last year in an average of less than four days after proofs were completed. Our former Principal of Jasper pchools, Hon. A. M. Sweeney, is President of the company, and this showing is a better one financially than he could ever have made had he continued as a school teacher, I
county superintendent, or clerk of the Supreme court all of his life. We congratulate him on biesttcceee. APPEALED. The countv commissioners at their session Tuesday held a consultation at Hretz V McK all's oflice, and on their attorney's advice ordered an appeal to the Supreme court in the Cassidy case. Commissioner Teder filed a written protest again.-t the appeal, saying the suit had tost the county enough already, without pileing up any more costs. Jt has so far cost the county taxpayers in the neighborhood of $500, which Cassidy 'i proposition to arbitrate, and await decision of Supreme court in other cases now before it involving the same law questions, would have saved the people's treasury. Teder was unquestionably in the right in it, as Cas-idy asked for a judgment and the county got a small one. It will cost jfl'M more to make out transcript of record and evidence for the Supreme court, as there is a vry large mass of it. Du d. lire. Mann K . Bonder man, wife of ex-Audilor Theodore Sonderman, died at hei hone) .n tOth street on Sunday last, and was buried at St. Joseph's graveyard Tuesday morning. She was" 7s years and 1 1 months old, and had been feeble for some time, and when the grippe attacked her was not strong enough to re-ist the attack. She had been married 57 years, and her huslcuid survives her. Th union produced four children two sons and two daughters, who survive her. Her son Florian is the priest at Lawrenceburg, Ind, She was highly respected by all who knew her, being always active in charitable and religious work-.

part of the Sheriff's salary, and that

The court, also, libs a provision as to ooete, by which about one half of the costs, accrued s.ubse.juent to the April term, 1900, ts against the plaintiff, and the balance against defendants.
