THE LOVE LETTERS OP AN IRISH LASSIE. i All KiKlilü Uttnerveil.) UCTTIS TWO. IRLAND, lud , Sept. 10th, 19 DlAS Khank : This lllfraoOB while sitting in my "sanctum sanctorium" thinking of past events hihI onasionnlly building air castles foi the future, I suddenly awaken from my dreamy retlective mood and gralp this opportuoitj for answering your n'ost welcome and very interesting letter. Already one air castle that I W9s all UuM night building is demolislied, 1 think, still I cling to tliat beautiful and comforting little verM of (iuldsmith's : "Hope like the tapi rs gleaming liglit, Nlnrnei and choon our way, And still as darker gros the night Kniits u brighter ray." It seems there is DOihing in this world for me. There is nothing in my favor, but everything against me. 1 don't have success at anything. I believe you possess a happy disposition and I think there is nothing so pleasing I try to cultivate one, and with all my failings I succeed pretty well. If I am melancholy none of the folks at home know it, but if 1 niu in company they detect it very quickly, most too quick to suit me. I think von are greatly favored in being where you are, you have a chance to see t great nianv noted places and objects, ami there are so many learned men there, you have I chance of seeing the-r customs and manners. I think it is the very place for I student. May you obtain the "scula iiitellectus" without ever being hurled doWO by ariiing difficulties, and alwavs driving to seek sometbii.g higher and nobler, and one of these days you will obtain great fame. May ''(iod bless you," dear boy, in your work. Put your trust in Him and He will shield you with His never failing love. And you will come off victorious, not only in this life but in the everlasting life; and at night when I kneel by my bedside to pray 1 will remember you then in u.y prayers. I would like to see you in you new uniform, I 'hink they are so cute; when you are down town some day drop in a photo gallery and have a tintype takpn and set d it to me. I am trying to wait patiently for your cabinet picture. I am sorry I cannot send you that pscture of Grace and , but I must keep it for her picture, rot mine. I'll give you one of mine alone when I get them taken. You spoke so nice of me, and so did Mrs. Jones, I thank you both ever so much. Hut I can't agree with either one of you. At any rate I am glad you don't think I am as ugly as I do. I'm sorry you can not come this summer, but I would not want your coming up here to interfere with any of your plans. I would like to see you so much, but I will be willing to wait. I hope this Christmas will not be as gloomy and drtary as Umlast one was. It snowed all day, part of the time so hard that we c uld not see across the street. I stayed at home all d;iy. Lva M. and I want to ket p open house New Year's day. I rereceived quite a number of callers last year, and wasn't expecting a single one. I was invited out to dinner and they had to send for me. You will be here I hope on New Yt ar's day. We will have a splendid t iuj. You remind me about myself about suggesting little romances, I am always sugge-ting something of the kind to Eva. You are right ab nit devoted friends lightening the rugged pathway of life, and dear Eva is my beacon light, and has been for about three years. I do not know what I would do without her, she is such a comfort to me in time of dark hours. Oh, my I should not talk about dark hours, for my hours are almost always bright, of course we luve some little troubles, but papa and mamma are eo very good to me. When I have the blues so bad I often think what if one or both should be taken away from me; then I might talk. Don't you often feel lonely in this selfish world? Did you ever hear this little song: Out in this wile world alone, Roaming alxjut through the street-, Asking a penny for bread, Crying for something to eat, Parentlesa, hungry and poor, Sadly I roam all the day, I am nobody's darling, Nobody caret for rue. When I am singing it I always dwell longer on those two last lines and apply them to myself. I have not finished telling you about Eva. I will endeavor to give you a description of her: She is a little beauty with violet eyes, chestnut hair, delicate little mouth, pearly white teeth, and fair as a lily; she is taller than I am, her height is five feet five inches, and I am five feet three inches. She takt s in society, I tell you, everyone that is not jealous of her, likes her. There i9 the most envious people in Ireland that I ever saw, I do believe. That is something that I am glad that I am not gifted with. I think where a girl is jealous of a gentleman or lady invariably he will notice it,andthat lady will be lowered in his estimation. What do you think? So many of them will not speak well of their girl friends, for fear it might encourage the gentlemen to go with them. I think if a lady speaks well of her girl friends to the gentleman that she is raised in his opinion and I am careful not to speak ill of my friends. Give me your opiuion on this subject and tell me if I am right or wrong. Well, so much for that. Frank, when 1 asked you what you ideal of a woman was, little did I think what your answer would be. Truly, I cannot tell you my best words will be for you. So if they are not what you wish them to be, you must be satisfied. There may be a great change in me when you come, but I cannot tell until then. Truly, Frank, I can not possibly see why you should think anything of me, when there are so many girta far superior to me where you are at. This is all a mystery to roe that I cannot solve. I want to be an artist, I am going to take lessons as soon as possible. I have always had a greit desire for painting. The folks laugh at me, for I am always out of doors studying the fields of nature, and especially on a beautiful moonlight night. And if there are any pictures around I will spy them and have a peep at them. I think I ought to be a gypsy girl. Well, I must discontinue for this time or I will make you tired. Your letters are jott grand, they areso long and interesting. Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain yours lovingly, LtUUtl. (To bo continued.) S II I 1 III
