It is a well-known fact that cows not milked cl an w ill tend to dry up in short order. Another important reason foBsi Iking clean is to gel all of the batter fat, which i- contained in a DUCb birgt t per cent, in the last than in the aisi ii, i, ilniiin. a i si,,wn by the following experiment. The college dairy bOI eondnetoi an experfanenl showing the importance of dean milking. live OOWI were selti ted and their milk tolle ted a half-pint bottles, each teat contributing its share to every Itottlc. These samples were tested with the Hahcock test, with the following result: Cow No. 6 varied from .6 of one per ceit. to 7Jt per cent. Cow No. C varied from .2 of one per cent, to C.6 per cent. COW No. 14 varied from 1.6 percent, to 5.s per cent. Cow No. 13 varied from 1.5 percent, tu M per cent. Cow No. SQ varied from .8 of one per cent, to T.s par cent. The results show a cradunl. although not entirely uniform, increase in the per cent, of fat from the beginning to the last of tbe milking, except with the last two samples drav n from each cow. Bora the per cent, of fat would take a Hidden leap, amounting often ton third or a half of the total variation. This shows very cle arly how important it is to get nil the milk. Hy averaging the results it w.i- found that the last qttOf er of a pint was worth from threefourths to 1 1 pints of milk first drawn from the udder. Moral: Milk clean and get fat. 1. H. Otis. There is no manure on the farm that ; opinis it. am! if properly gathered ! from droppings boards it will be entirely fre- from weed seeds, a very important characteristic of fertilizers. A great many are afraid to use it, fearing it is so strong us to burn up the plants which it is .ntended to benefit. There is only one proper method of applying poultry manure to the soil before planting, and that is broadcasting i it upon the soil after plowing andthoi - oughly mixing it with the soil by hat ; rowing. Applied in this way. the growth of the crops grows on that , piece of ground rill be simply wonj derful.
