increase in the Democratic vote in this district Mr. Zeooff carrying every county in the district but Oi

ange, while two years ago he lost four of the counties, and the ma joritiee are this year generally larger in the counties, and the vote 00 the State ticket increased OVSf 2j000 compared with two years ago. This was accomplished by earnest work and good organization, for which A Jam Heimberger, of New Albany,

and VV. E. Cox, of this county, de serves the thanks of the Democracy of the State generally and of the :'d dirtrn t particularly. in the beginning of the canvass. Mr. Cox, as chairman of the district committee, visited every county in the district, and some of them twice, to assist in a thorough and harmonious Democratic organization for work, and this was kepi up until the election, the fttriotll county committees in most of the counties working enthusiastically and judiciously for the ent re tick et, and burying all personal choice

for the cereral success. Mr. Cx

cv expected to visit each county sev

eral times, but in the middle of the canvass he was taken sick, ami

confined to his room for weeks He, h wever, from his bed dictated between 3,000 and 4,-00 J leiten, and sent them to active workers and friends at many precincts through the district, urging the necessity of active and unceasing woik for success, and the result showed the effect of such work throughout the district. If the other congressional districts had done as well Indiana would have been Democratic and Senator Tur pie would have been his own succerisor. The result in this iistriot shows Mr. Cox to be what his friends asserted in the district con

vention when he was chosen chair man a clear headed, thorough organizer, competent and willing to work in any emergency for the good of his country and democracy. The

POINTED PARAGRAPHS. Comparison are odious when they shadow us. A retriever is the most fetching thing in the world. The medicine bottle usually has a bid taste in its mouth. The path of ambition leads to a great many political graves. It is impossible to convince a spider that there is honev in the rose.

Indolence often assumes the mask of patience and gathers in her rewards. It is pretty hard for some men to

keep their wants down to their incomes. This world is a dangerous place

to live in. People seldc.m get out of it alive. That a man neverlived who didn't expect to invent something that would make him rich. Horse racing is a peculiar Uiing; the majority of the horses in a race are not in it. A writer ays there is a great deal of character in politics but he

doesn't specify the kind. It doesn't cause a man's heart to over flow with joy as he meanders home at '1 a. m. to discover that Loth nimsSM and the moon are down to their last quarter. Chicago News.
