vention for Daviess and Dubois
counties was called to order at the
Court house in Jasper, on Aug. 11, 1XS, by Hon. John H. Spencer,
Detnoc atic Chairman of Daviess
county, who stated the object of the meeting. On motion Hon. John L, Bretz was made permanent ch tirinan, and on taking the chair made a speech criticising the National administration for its utter lack of care for the comfort and health of the American army in Cuba. On motion V. C. Hinckley was chosen secretary.
Nominations ling called for
Hon. John H. O'Neall, on behalf of Daviess county, presented the name of Hon. Kph. inman as the choice of Daviess county , and spoke of his fitness and experience for the position. The nomination was seconded by Hon. Wm. A. Traylor for Dubois county, and upon his motion was declared unanimous. Mr. Inman was then introduced to the Convention and made a brilliant Iptach, thanking the Convention for the honor, and promising to use his best endeavors to pronude such enactments as would be fest for all the pec pie, and if there should lie any differences, he would be t nind in favor of the laboring masses and farmers, who were oppressed by the Republican party's legislation in favor of monied trusts and monojiolies, which ground the faces of the jioor, reduced prices of the products of agricultute and manufactures, and enabled the rich to grow richer and the poor grow poorer. He, also, praised the glorii Miactions of our armie- and navy in the present war for humanity, and censured the National administra
