At the Democratic Conven

tion of Gibson and I'osey counties at New Harmony on Tuesday, W. E. Stillwell, of Gibson, was nominated for Senator, and James Kilroy, of I'osey, for Prosecutor; both by acclamation. JbThe 159th Indiana Regiment is the only one now in camp at Indianapolis, and its ollicers are e pecting orders to move any time. The 157th, 158th, 160th, and the two batteries of artillery are at Chicamaugua, drilling, with 2ö.000 other troops.

'Up to date there has been no

State Convention June 22. The Indiana State DemocratitConvention has been called to nie-t at laOMBBpoUs. June 22. The delegates from Dubois county should remember the date.

"Photo man Richardson has

collected some mementoes besides his children among them a leal from a tree on the grave of President James K. Polk's grave in Tennesee, and a piece of stone from the grave of President Win. Henry Harrison, in Ohio. He also has a number of pictures of scenery and distinguished people. fResolutions passed both houses of Congtess on Monday thanking Commodore Dewey anil the mem in his command for their gallant conduct at Manilla; authorizing the President to make him a rear admiral, and appropriating money to present him a line sword, and each man in his command an appropriate bronze medal commemorating the great victory. Nkw Organization. The Jasper BfOOtU Works was partially organized this week, with a subscribed stock of 12,500. This i. tinenterprise Mr. Henry F. UuokM has !een pushing for several weeks, and, if properly mmaged, should prove a profitable investment but it depends on the management. The directors chosen for the first year are Joseph Gerber, Andrew Shuler, Frank L. Hetz, Win. Pfatf and Andrew J. Berber. The following ollicers were elected by the Directors: President, A. Shuler; Vice President, J. Gerber; Secretary, F. L. Hetz; Treasurer, A. .1 . Herger; Supt. and Gen. Manager, H. F. Guckes.

time ftCting up to its name, enter a Cuban harbor without fighting, or make a dash for some of our coa.-t cities. This state of affairs would lie exasperating weie it not for the satisfaction everyone feels in knowing that the Spanish lleet is actually in American waters. It may dodae ui for awhile but it is bound

to be our game in end w ill be at once Seel dan s to tight tleets. One man's

as good as another s about the intention of the Spanish lleet, but a few days w ill show them. The postponement of the sending

of troops to Cuba made necessary by the presence of the Spanish fleet in American waters is less aggravating than it appears to be. In lact it is a good thing for us. Had the original plan of landing troops in Cuba last week been carried out, Wt should not have been able to land a sullicient number to capture Havana, which is defended by some 30,000 Spanish soldiers, owing to the inability of the government b furnish equipment.- needed by the volunteers; and any delay in whipping the Spanish out of Cuba after our army goes over there will he calculated to lessen our practice among the nations of the world. Dewey's men at Manila, and the succession of brave and daring deeds performed by the men on the ships engaged in blockading tinCuban ports, have placed our navy among the foremost tighteis in the world, and it WÜJ be very humilia ting for our army not to make equally as good slowing when it goes to Cuba. It is therefore absolutely necessary that a sullicient number of men, properly equipped, to accomplish what they go to do should be sent to Cuba. The delay will serve to place the army on a nroner footing. Just to give an

The law permits it, and he could be used profitably at 40 cents a day, with some one working with hiin to watch him and make hiin work, or duck him under a hydrant if he refused.

It would have been an impossibility to have found men more incompetent than many of the civilians named for jsisitions on the staff. This incompetency was fully recognized by Mr. McKinley, as he selected enough ollicers from the regular army to do all the work that is likely to be requited of the staff, which will leave the incompetents to do the ornamental.
