Mr. Kink claims that it is improperly built, allowing it to leak and fill his cellai, well and cistern with foul, black and unwholesome water, Lhai this has caused the death of his young daughter, and the continued sickness of his family, and turned his former healthy home into a place unfit to live in, and caused him to carry the water

Then, after repairs are ohce made they w ill have to be repeated probably every year, as the sand rock foundation, full of seams and fissures, and the coal and white clay, will constantly be washing out. sinkinir. unevenly, and under
mining and cracking the bottom and sides of the reservoir. Any engineer of half sense, who has had experienc3 in such affairs, will bear out this assertion. A solid sandstone foundation, or a lime stone cr granite one, can be used for a reservoir foundation, but not auch a formation as extends the entire
deuth of that hill, as has
. . shown by the drill. The best and most economical thing the town can do now, would be to abandon that reservoir entirely, put up a good stand pipe, 100 feet high if necessary, contract
with drillers, upon the insurance
plan to drill enough wells to furnish it with an abundance of pike wa ter, upon the town lot on Mill street, where the former town house stood. Well drillers are ready to under
take to put down wells and furnish sufficient plkk water to keep the stand pipe full all the time at their own risk, not to be paid for until ihe pukk water is furnished in sufficient quantity, and do the work at
a reasonable price. I'ure water
would remove to a large extent, the danger constantly present now, of disease germs, and further suits against the town when other deaths shall occur, like those in Mr. Kink's
family, from the contamination of the water. These deaths, and resulting suits for damages, are likely to become more numerous while the present water is used even in sprinkling, as the people become more generally informed as to their legal rights against the corporation. Besides, the pure water would soon
furnish double the revenue to the
town it derives from the present
water as it would be used in
houses all winter instead of only in the summer months, as at present. Kvery new house would be fitted for the water then, as it would save the exitense of wells and cisterns,
and would be more healthful. The ami of keepimr a supply in the
stand pipe need not be any greater
than at present, and the servie pressure would be much superior.
The old saying is "bought wit is the dearest," but in this case the town should profit by it.
