School house last Sunday afternoon with a good attendance, and as i

was already organized went right to work, Dr. Woods making a good start as Sunt. The fchool voted to

meet at 10 o'clock in the morning hereafter. The Christian Endeavor

Society also chose to meet in the

school house at night, instead of in

the church, as heretofore, and wil

continue their meetings there. An Epw rth League will probably now

be organized to meet at the church, and it is hoped these little divisions

custom for first communicants to

pay for schooling, and the sacrament was not charged for. sWThe altar was handsomely dressed, and fragrant with flowers, and the children looked bright and happy, notwithstanding the rain, and the music by the Star band and choir was grand and impressive, snd the Knights, in their brilliant uniforms, added to the beauty of the scene, and the advice to the first communicants by Father Stenger was plain and calculated, if followed, to make them better citizens, at St. Joseph's church last Sunday. And to cap it all, after the services were over many happy family re-unions occurred, and choice dinners were enjoyed. Emrkzzlement. Mr. Theodore Gohman, one of the best known citizens of Ferdinand, was arrested Tuesday, charged with embezzlement by affidavit sworn to by Mr. John Hetz. He had an examination Tuesday night before Esq. Fink who held him to Court, and in default of $500 bail he spent the night in jail. Wednesday morning deputy Sheriff Vic Cassidy went with him to Ferdinand, to see if he could get bondsmen there. He is administrator of his father's estate, and Messrs John Betz and John Giamelapacher are on his bond. His reports to Court show that he is about $700 behind with the trust. He was preparing to leave the state without settling up, and would have gone yesterday had he not been arrested. He has a wife and two children, and his downfall is a (treat surprise to many people. It is said to be another instance of failure of a promising career through the excessive drinking of intoxicating liquors. Mr. John Altman. of Feidinand, went on his bond for his appearance at court, and he was released. Insank Inquest. A lunacy inquiry was held Monday morning by Esq. Geo. Nix and T. Zoeller over Geo. Herker, of Harbison township, and upon the testimony of Dra. E. J. Kempf and J. P. Salb, he was found insane, and dangerous to be at large, as he had attempted to commit suicide several times, and believed people were trying to poison him, and application was made for his admission to the Southern Hospital. Evaasville Club Did Not Receive Fair

A large party of Evansville

dents went to Jasper yesterdav

the Air Line. One of the attrac

tions was a ball Käme between an

Evansville club and the Jasjer

tt-am. It is reported that a small

party of "rooters" for the Jasper

layers acted in very discourteous

manner toward the Evansville plav-

ers, ana became no obnoxious that

many patrons left the grounds. If

another contest is arranged it is

hoped Jasper citizens will keen the

disturbing element out of the

grounds. Evansville Courier, 24th.

I he Jasper ball players think

some one played a "fake" on the Courier reporter who wrote the above, for all the Evansville team

seemed to be very well pleaded with

their reception and treatment, and went home in the best of humot

carrying their fairly earned victory 18 to 11 with them. The "An chor" team from Evansville acted the gentlemen, and beat the Jas)ier Reds because the latter had not practiced any hardly, and their pitcher was disabled, and a sub. had to be put in. It rained, too, in the morning, and the ball ground was wet, and on that account the attend ance was not as large as it would have been otherwise. Hut all passed

off in a good humor as far as the

ball club was aware.

Sheriff that until the new addition is furnished there will be no room for any more from Dubois county, as its quota is now full. As Dr. Thomas will go out of office in July, it is not probable the new building will be furnished before Dr. Mason takes charge.
