years have rolled by, and true and unadulterated Christianity tnu secured more earnest followers, the fact that all men were cieated equal, that none possess an inherent right to lord it over others, and that the truest happiness is attained by making others happy, is being exemplified more and more in every enlightened mind. But the the world has not yet readied that ideal, elysian condition where the wealthy will refuse to take advantage of their wealth to make their possessions larger, to build new warehouses to store idle wealth in, to the disadvantage of their less wealthy neighbor. When it does reach that condition the millennium will be ushered in, and love of every human being as creatures of Christ, will possess all hearts, to the exclusion of Armen ian massacres, Cuban outrages, and the gold grabbers greed. We art marching on toward it, and each recurring Christmas brings it nearer Reader, you can help bring it
about more speedily if you will look around you and see if you cannot discover some worthy family, oi person, whose existence you car brighten, whose christian longing.you can strengthen this blessed Christmas morning. (From our Regular I'orreapondent. ) WASHINGTON LETTER. Wamuvotok,D. c .. DM.SS, 16. Talking war and voting for what would bring actual war are two very different things. The leading re publicans furnished their share of the war talk which preceded the election in the halls of Congress, but now the election is over and a republican president is on the eve
of being inaugurated, some of these the pajer?
republicans have changed tbeir tune. This has been esjecially noticeable -ince the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations took the bull by the horns snd reported a short resolu'ion declaring the independence of Cuba, and that the 1. S. would use its good othces t bring about eace between the Spania-ds and Cuba, notwithstanding a protest from S -c-ietary Olney, who appeared before the Committee and argued a continuance of the policy of non-action. The republicans have not made any party announcement on this resolution and probably will not until the public discussions during the Congressional holiday recess shall have shown unmistakably whether it
would be wise for them to make the defeat of the resolution a party atmtion. McKinley doesn't want the resolution adopted, and hi.closest friends in Congress are scheming to get up a plan under which it may Ik? hung up without a vote. Speaker Reed declines to publicly commit himself, but he ia believed to be against it. That the resolution, if put into force, would result in a war with Spain is believed by all, but it is a long ways from being in force, and your correspondent would not like to put up a cent on its being in force. In the first place, it would have to get a twothirds vote in both branches of Conen -s in order to be adopted over rmldonl Cleveland's veto, which it would certainly meet ujon its first adoption. McKinley's wishes may not affect the Senate, but they will have much weight in the House. The fate of the resolution depends

Coonty Superintendent. Editor Coi rikr: As I understand a County Su-rintendent is to be elected by the Township Trustees next June, and as I have be n informed Mr. Wilson has declined to be considered a candidate for the othVe again, I think it would be well for the friends of education to le thinking beforehand who would be the MM man, every way. to succeed Mr. Wilson. I noticed in
that Messrs Seidl. of
( ass town-hin. and hverard, ot
Madison township, are spoken of. As far as I know each of them is a good man, and either of them would probably make a fair Super-int-ndent but would either fie the MST? The interests of our children, educationally, of our county in in its reputation, and of good morals, demand the rksi max for the place. 1 believe in this day of liberal education a thorough graduate is likely to possess qualifications in advance of those not graduates, and fortunately then- are several in Dubois county. One whom I believe would fill the bill completely, is Mr. Bomar Traylor, a graduate of the State University, and who taught a splendid school for us at Kyana. I do ne t think he is a candidate but I lelieve he would make a first class superintendent, and would take the office and fill it with pride if tendered him. I mention his name without authority, and do so because I think it is time to consider the situation from the parents' stand-point, before personal solicitation gets it mixed up. I would like to hear from others as to what they think best. Pbo boxo Publico. Kvana, Dec. 20, M.
