"The oratorical contest at the
court house Saturday night was fairly well attended, considering that it rained steadily all tho time. The contestants were Misses Edna C toper, Virdie Brown, Maude Lemmon and Mr. Jasper Abell, and each one desened credit foi the effort made and study evinced. Messrs. J. B. Vernon, G. II. Wilson and Miss Alice Keropf were appointed Judges, and were furnished printed lists uf instructions as to n.ertt marks. They awarded the gold medal to Miss Edna Cooper, and it was pre
sented to Her in an appropriate address by R. M. Milburn, Esq. The exercises were presided over by Mms Leoni Urittain in a graceful manner, and were opened bv jravsr by Mrs. L. L. Cooper. The C.K. choir rendered some good fongs, in a creditable way. Some half grown young men who were present needed to ham a little manners, and that boorishnes is never creditable anywhere. They left when the exercises were nearly over, making a boisterous noise as they went. If they could not behave themselves nicely, they should not have attended. Tke W. C. T. U. feaveitiaa,
