slaughter houses should all be loca

there is an abundance of running water for cleansing puporses. wT"It was a Boonville pencil pusher who started the report last week, that a certain Hunttngburg girl kneads bread with her gloves on. And a Jasper editor rie to remark that we also need bread with our shoes on, with our pants ou, and with our clothes on. We need it badly, too, and if our delinquents do not soon pay up we will need it without any pants at all. The Bkoom Factory. Mr. Henry F. He will then be prepared to sake up brooms for customers promptly, and will also manufacture them for aale to merchants, and will always be ready to fill orders for any quality desiied the day orders are received. Now would be an opportune time - for Jasper's Town Trustees to con

sider the question of what kind of

buildings should be built in certain parts of the town. If a citizen is permitted to build a fire trap next door to another one's good house, the insurance rate of that locality is certainly increased, and the one

with a good hou?e is compelled to

pay yearly on account of the proximity of his neighbor' poor one, if be secures insurance, and if he carries the risk himself it is likely to cost still more. Th protection afforded by Mr. Hochgesong's brick house, at the re

ceat fire, unquestionably saved Mr.

Brett's and Mr. Gerber's. If Hoch

gesong's hud been frame, it could

not nave been saved, and it was damaged bv the fierce heat of the

adjoining frame house of Mr. Voll

mer. This was a striking object

lesson that all could understand,

and for safety in the future its teaching should be heeded. This much on the score of safetv

the money side. More might be

urged on the score of substantial

beauty and comfort and Jasjer is

large enough now to take these into

consideration for the general wel

fare. Any one of capital lookin-

for a location is more apt to settle in a town where the character of the

buildings shows the confidence of

its citizens in its permanent progress and this character is not evidenced by frame buildings, as well as by brick or stone, in its central portions. The law give? the town trustees the say in the matter of fire limits, and Ute Co um kr believes the present is a good time to start in this line of progress. It if not the fool who is alwavs politt ad courteous.
