The lire engine did good work, as without it Mehringer's and probably Hochgesang's would have burned, and if they had burned several others would likely have caught The G. A. R. lost a number of guns, their chaiter, pictures, etc. They occupied the town hall. If the water-works had been completed the fire could have been confined to the livery stable. It is not known how it started, but it is thought probable from

spontaneous combustion in some imillet.
