JtHFKK. ItlTMOIS VUl'NTV. INDIANA. -nldnlai lb f.tottlrr I J.ir liutliiu, for rn it Itiii Ihruutfb Ihr ntnil fn. cUx n.tttr FRIDAY, Al'ttrST 2, 1S95. The Cleveland Carlisle-Shor-nian-MoKinley gold bug policy increased the interest bearing government debt daring July f:fö,4:J.r,!i:iS, while thousands of cords of silver bullion lie uselessly corded up inside the square of the V. S. mint at Philadelphia paid for by the liovennent from the hard-earned taxes of the common people. tafSoum would-be leaders are so constituted that their great minds would make despots of them if peo pie would submit, and because the People believe in principles instead of men, and they are turned down, it sours them, and they seek underhanded revenge. Hut they are generally impotent thanks to intelligence. lörThe Coiuuku acknowledges the receipt of a complimentary ticket of entrance to the Indiana Soldier and Sailors' Monument at lndianajMilis. It is now open to visitors, and no one s lould visit the j city without taking a view from the top of the Monument. Its the ra. e now with all fashionable visitors. 3rThe Coi'kikk is indebted to Mr. K. C. Burba, Sec'y of the Oakland City Industrial Society, tor an invitation to attend the Fair there, beginning next Monday. It has always been one of the best Fairs in Southern Indiana, and this year will be no exception. BioMoKT.E--Mr. F. L. Patrick, President of the Indianapobis and Chattanooga U. R. winch has had such a hard pull to build its tirst seven miles of road from Rockport to Grandview, was in Jasper Monday last to have a mortgage recorded to the Indianapolis Trust Co. for 11,000,000, or ulHrtit $20,000 per mile of its proposed line, to secure the payment of that amount of bonds, running öO years from date. If the Trust Co. succeeds in selling the bonds the work of building will be resumed immediately and pushed as fast as possible. The Company has notified the State Auditor that the 130,000 stock subsreibed has been fully paid up. Dubois County's Appraisement Raised. The State Tax Commissioners last Saturday incieased the valuation for taxation on land in Dubois countv 5 per cent., and on lots and improvements in llunüngburg 10 per cent. ; thus adding about $ 15G,J500 to the duplicate. This is not fair if the assessment of 185)1 was to be taken as the basis this year, as they notified tin County Assessors, for "under that i-struction the appraisment on land was increased over tha.of 18 I 141,:!50, by As-se.-sors and Board of Review. The double increase adds 21)7, 700 to the valuation of land, which is largely in excess of the actual increase in value of farm lauds. The valuation was incieased in 52 counties. Tswa Beard PrececiMtags. The Jasper Town Hoard met in special session Friday night Aug. 10, 185)5. Messrs. Joseph Egg and Jos. Rottet, appraisers appointed to appraise damages to John Hopf, Sr., by reasoning of condemning threequarters of an acre of his laud on 'Reider's hill," for a reservoir for the water-works, presented their reIort, fixing the damages at $.'J00. The report, was received and ap proved, 11)0 appropriated lo pay the damages, and the town treasurer directed to make him a tender of the money. Messrs. Isidore Schumacher, Ferdinand Schneider and J. P. Mc Mullen petitioned the Hoard for the right to erect poles and wires along the streets of the town, for an electric light and power plant, and Trustees Kempf and Kunkel were appointed a committee to confei with the petitioners, with authority to consult with the town attorney, at.d make a report of such an agree inent us to terms as mav bo arrived at. Messrs. O. Jennings &, Sons represented to tiie Hoard that the were about to establish a factory on the lot south of the railn.au station, and petition id that Main street at that place be properly drained Trustee Sprauer and Kunkel wen appointed a committee to examint m to the necessary work there, and have it done. On petition of Leo F. Spnyd, and others, for a side-walk on lutl Street between Jackson and Main Trustees Kempf and Flick were ap pointed a committee to examine in to the matter, and rep n to Um Board at its next meeting.
