annual encauipuvnt next month. at Louisville Hifiuixi A.vn Lo.v.v. The examining conitnittee of the I'henix Ioan Association finished iU work last ve.k, and made its rejwrt to the Directors. It shows, by comparison, that as an investment, to say nothing of the large indirect returns by huving all the money received di.-bursed at home, the I'henix shares are more profitable than those of State associations at Indianapolis, or elsewhere. Series "A," which will pay out next year has so far accum inu la ted profits amounting to about six jer cent, a year to each stockholder on the money paid in. Shares are now worth each $54.19. Series B has been running four years. Shareholders have paid in $52 on each share. Shares are now worth $U22 each showing an increase on the money invested of a.out nine er cent, a year. Series 0" had been running 2 years and l m nths at date of examination. Shareholders have paid on each share $2U,25 ; shares were worth June 30, 1595, $3o 55 each, being a gain of $4.110 on each share, or an interest of over 13 jer cent, er year. The Indiana Mutual, of Indianapolis, on o shares held by one of our citizens, and recently cancelled, calculated the increase in 4 years at only 77 cts. ier share, or only about 4 er cent, on money paid in. The Tuckers CtMrty tetihrte Began on Monday morning, and 138 paid the enrollment fee of 75 cents that day while the attendance was probably 50 larger. On Tuesday 140 teachers enrolled, and the attendance increased considerably. Profs. T. G. Altord, E. F. Sutherland, Weiker and Morgeuthaler have all been present, together with representatives of several educational publications, and the sessions have been very interesting. Prof. Weiker has given daily lessons j on how to iLstruct a school in music; a branch which is likely to be added soon to the necessary qualifications of teachers. Prof. Sutherland's lectures on scientific temper ance, and his demonstrating experiments, have been highly appreciated by teachers. The oratorical contest Monday night drew an overflowing house and the committee on award gave the prize, a handsome copy of Shakspheare, to Miss Clara Alford.uf Madison Tp. The literarv lecture bv Prof Alfor.l, on Tuesday night, on Shakespeare, drew a large audience, and was greatly appreciated. Prof. Sutherland entertained the jeole Wednesday night with a pop, ,ular talk on Longfellow. WfcMpcc! Uf bt her Up. Mr. F. P. McMullen, of Vincennes, contractor for construction Jor the General Electric Company's systems of Electric Lighting for this territory, is here, and proposes to put in a first class Electric light and power plant. The General Electnc Co. is a consolidation of the Edison Co., of New York and the Thomson-Houston J Co , of lioston, the two leading Electrical Companies of this country. Mr. McMullen proose:j to put in the Edison low pressure direct current system. This system, the invention and perfection of which brought both fame and fortune to Edison, is regarded as the ierfection of Electric Lighting. The general Electric Co. guarantees that no possible injur can result to anyone through contact with the wires or machinery of the entire system, and this is a very important consideration to the consumers of light, and our citizens generally. We understand from Mr. McMullen that the cost of lighting; the average resideuce, usingö lights, will not exceed $1.50 per month, or an average of 30 cts, for each light, while the rates for business houses will lw the same as rates charged at Viucennes and Washington, Ind., much larger towns. We understand further, that h proposes to organize a local Co., which shall be managed and controlled by a local board of directors. His Co. will take all stock ot mbtcriWd for here,

THE EMPliiE BRILL "

It is the BEST Hecause

It is what we claim it to be a POSITIVE FORCE FEED. It sows, with the same gear, the same quantity' of wheat or oats. It is the only drill in the world that will do this. THE FORCE-FEED FERTILIZER ATTACHMENT used on the Empire Drill is fast superseding all others, because It is the only one made that is a F0KCE FEED. It does not paste nor clog up. It distributes an even continuous stream. It is taken apart without loosening a nut, spring, holt or key.

It teeds out all the phosphate m the box.
