L nited States Treasury management by Carlisle to the Euronean K.Hhs-

child s management has had the ef

icei io inuuee european capital to

purchase $Gb000,000 worth of various corporation bonds from America in the last two months. This will require at least $2(51,000 to be .sent to Europe each month to pav interest, and should be viewed as :i dire calamity instead of a blessing It brings about a constant drainage of the people's m Jiiey, to be sent to foreign hankers. It will be a Godsend to this country when such a policy shall be adopted as will to tally destroy all demand for anv bonds, of any kind, at any rate, in any foreigh country, and oür people would be a great deal happier without the expenditure of a dollar of foreign money in the United States.

Secretary Gresham Dead. Secretary of State Walter Q Gresham, at the time of his death the most distinguished citizen of Indiana, died i.t his home in Washington City Tuesday morning, at about 1 o'clock. Judge (Jresham was a thoroughly honest man, a firm friend of the laboring masses, and personally popular with all parties. He made a great political miütake in accepting a place in Cleveland's cabinet, but discharged the duties of his ollice in every instance with honor to his country. The country needs more of such sturdy, honest men as Judge (ires ham. No taint of corruption of any kind was ever thought of bv anv one as connected with him, and in an Administration probablv as cor nipt as that of the Credit "Mobilier times, where many have made fortunes by official favors to wealthy interests, he preserved a character above reproach. Would to God the same might be truthfully said t f the head of the administration. Hut the good die lirst, and their virtues live after them. Brave and chivalrous Gresham! Indianians, as one man, mourn for thee. Afaiast the Seatiael's eaMkaH Fallacy. Nbw Yökk, May 28. A London
