Dciucratic Central CMnittee Meeting.
The committee retired ami soon presented the following report which was adopted by a rising vote : RESOLUTIONS OF C0NDOI.KXCK. Whoreas, It has pleased the Great Heeorder of All, to remove from our midst Mr. Britain Lciuiiur. He
eorder of Dubois county, and Democratic nominee for re-election, and Whereas. It is but just and pro-
mr that a fittimr recounitioii of his
C - ü tj i many virtues should be had; therefore, be it Resolved, That while we how with humble submission to the will of God, wo do not the less mourn for our fellow Democrat, countryman, soldier, oflicer and citizen, who has just passed the great river of the shadow of death. Resolved, That in the death of Mr. Leming the citizens of Dubois county have lost a good and faithful official ; one who in words and deeds showed that he recognized "a
public olhce as a public trust. Resolved, That we point with pardonable pride and pleasure to the records of Mr. Leming as an example of the work and ability of a Democratic otlicial. Resolved, That wc recommend to all the emulation of Mr. Leining's readiness to proffer the hand of aid and the voice of sympathy to the needy and distressed, and his success in his endeavors to exert every effort for the welfare and the prosperity of the people whom he scrvcti. Resolved, That to the relatives and friends of the deceased, we,
tlift Dfiinocracv of Dubois county,
in convention assembled, tender
our sincere sympathy and condol n!r
Resolved, That the Democratic nnnnrs of Dubois countv. be fur
nished a copy of these resolutions with a request to publish the same, and mail to the relatives of the de
ceased. John E. McFall,
Wm. Marius, A. A. Hesskmeh. of committeemen was
Fr Recorder Philip Dilly.
Pursuant to call of Chairman John Gramelspacher the Dubois County Democratic Central Committee met at the City Hall in Huntingburg on Saturdav Sept. 1st, 1894.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gramelspacher, and on motion Mr. Geo. R. Wilson was chosen as Secretary of the Committee.
Chairman Gramelspacher then addressed the Committee as follows : Gentlemen of the Dubois County Central Committee : For the first time in the history of Dubois county you have been called upon to fill a vacancy upon the nominated Democratic countv
ticket, caused by the death of our fellow officer Britain Leming, late Recorder of the county, and nominee for the same office on the Democratic county ticket for a second
term. Gentlemen, considering the cause of the vacancy should induce you to fill the place of Britain Leming in a quiet and harmonious way. The manner of conducting the nomination lies with you. Make the nomination peaceably, honor
ably and to the best interest ot tne
Democratic party. In this matter let the candidates and the committeemen vie with each other as to
which can best serve the interest of the party. I will not dictate to you in what manner you should conclude to make the nomination: vou are left
free to act upon your own good judgment; your final action will be
accepted and agreeable to the Democrats of Dubois county. Let me admonish you as to the character of the man whose place
you are about to fill, make the nomination as unanimous as his own was at the last primary election.
Also, bear in mind the truth as expressed by our now acknowledged standard bearer at the late State Convention, Claude Matthews, Governor of Indiana, bear in mind that vour uroccedinirs to-day are
jealously watched by renegades
from our party, now represented on the Renublican countv ticket. De
feat their anticipations by harmon
ious action. Kor weeks betöre poor
Brit's death, they have planned to bring discord and wrangle into the Democratic ranks by this nomina
tion. They have named a multiplied host of candidates, and used their best endeavors to enlist one or more candidates from Bainbridge township. Their efforts proved futile. Their objects were apparent to the true Democracy of Bainbridge township; you will nave the proof before you to-day. A kind, good will is extended to the Democracy of Dubois county, to the disgust and chagrin of the weather-vane head of the Republican county ticket. This address was received with cheers. On motion of John E. McFall the chair appointed a committee on necrology as follows : John K. McFall, Wm. M. Harris and A. A. HMsemer.
The roll
then read. When Harbison township was called Philip Dilly presented his resignation, and in doing so announced that he did so because he
was a candidate. The resignation was accepted, and Jerome 1$. Vowell was elected to fill the plaee. Peter J. Schnarr held the position of committeman in Boone township in place of John D. Hauser, who fail.-d to serve. Wm. M. Harris
had the nroxv of Jas. Crowder.
n V. Dnnahoe was iriven the
place of I. C. Whaley, who was ab
sent.
Henry J. Meyer, of CassTp., pre
sented his resignation because ne was a candidate. Win. Heitman
was riven his nlace.
