THE ILLUSTRATED COURIER. The Jasper Courier put out a beautiful edition last week, illustrated with views of the court house and other public buildings, also the county othcials and prominent business "men of the town, with a good history of Jasper the fifty year old county seat of Dubois county. State commissioners Win. Hongatt, Adam Shoemaker, Thomas Vandever, Thomas Cissale and Ebenezer Jones, who were apiointed by the Indiana Legislature, selected the site. The whole edition is most interesting and shows that editor Clement Doane, the pioneer editor, still knows how to keep in the lead. -Oakland City Record. The Jasper Courier issued its illus trated edition last week. Besides a jiood write-up of our county seat, it contained many excellent ortraits and biographies of Jasper's prom inent citizens and several illustrations of business houses and dwellings of that town. The Courier will hereafter also appear in a new dress, that will add much to the appearance of the paper. The Xkws con gratulates editor Doane on the success of his "Illustrated .Iasjer," and extends best wishes for the future prosperity of the Courier as well as its veteran editor. Huntingburg News. The Jasper Courier came out last Aveek in twelve pages, handsomely printed, and with neat pictures of all the leading business men of the thriving little city, together w ith biographical sketches, business reviews, etc. It is one of the neatest lioom editions of a local 'paper we have seen for a long time. Dale Reporter. Editor Doane, of the Jasper Courier, treated his readers to a very agreeable surprise last week by issuing an illustrated edition. The paper was twelve pages in size and lias a new dress of type. It contains cuts of the principal buildings, and of the leading citizens with biographical sketches. Huntingburg Argus. The Jasper Courier, published by Mr. Clement Doane, came to hand last week double its usual size. It was a very line edition, containing pictures of the leading business men, business houses and fine residences of Jasper. Mr. Doane deserves great credit for his earnest work for Jasper and her citizens. Boonville Enquirer. Copies of the Illustrated edition can be had on application at the CouiUKit office. Our citizens should Kee that they are placed where they will do the most good.

The family have the heartfelt sympathy of all. There is no grand jury this term. The following is the regular panel of pettit jury, drawn on Monday by the Jury Commissioners: Frank llulsman, John Frank, John E. Gray, Peter B. Scheirieh, John Hochgesang Henrv Schnarr, Mat Neu, John Rechtie, Michael j Agnes, Christ. Hoffman. Win. 1 Klausmeyer, George Meyer. Diki), On Sunday afternoon, April 15, 1SD4, at his home in Boone township, of Bright 's disease, Mit. Jon.v Coi.rMiirs Bkittain, aged (i'J years, 11 months and 15 days. Mr. Brittain's death, although not unexpected, as he had been aftlieted for several years, was yet a sad and painful surprise to his family and a host of friends, lie was able to be at the family table at dinner, and no unfavorable symptoms showed until about '2 o'clock, and at o o'clock he expired, lie was one of the best citizens and fanners of Boone township, was a native of Dulois county, being a son of John G.and Sarah L. Brittain, who were pioneers in this county, coming from South Carolina here in lS'i.'l. and locating near llaysville. "Colunib," as he was known by his familiar friends, was a man of strong principles, generous impulses and well liked by all. He leaves a widow and a large family, mostly grown, and a number of grand children, who will miss his watchful care. Thev have the deep svmpathy of all who know them. The lody was laid to rest in Lemmon church graveyard on Monday, at tended by a large number of friends. There are manv reasons whv an an income tax is a useful agency in carrying out the purposes of the platform. It is well known that in past years, and particularly during the Fifty-first congress, expendi tures were enonnouslv increased, with the specific object of making a high tariff inevitable. The committee which framed the Wilson bill was greatlv embarrassed bv this action of these unscrtipuluous opponents. Thev found it linpos sible to raise the necessarv revenue from customs without putting rates oppressively high. It was there fore only proper that the neb men, who had caused these unnecessary expenditures for their own benefit, should be asked to pay a part of them out of the vast incomes that have been secured to them bv law. It is in the interest of governmental economy to have it understood that if public expenditures are rendered needlessly high at the dictation of class interests, those very interests shall bear their share of the burden which this prodigality entails.
