Au Eastern Policy. Tba following paragraph dipped from au exchange explains a wlaaluf Eastern policy : "It is reported tbat lion. W. D. By.
Baa will aot be a candidate for re-elec ties ta CoaajreM. It is learned that he baa received two offers to outer tba bmc
tleeof law in the Bast. One of them Is
from a New York firm, and the other from a Washington firm. In recen'. let
ters tbe Congressman said that he would possibly accept one of these offers and
retire from Congress at tbe end of the
present term."
when a Western man is sent to Uon
grass a few terms, aad displays couiid
arable ability, the money centers of the Eastlmake bim such flattering offers tbat
be cannot roust catting his lot with
tbea, aud they enlist bis sympathies for
tneir policies. Ho doubt this explains
why Uynum voted as he did on the
Eastern silver demonetization bill, and
ill follow them on tbe tariff.
Obituary.
PORTERSVILLK, I XI),
On Monday morning, November 13
at 3 o'clock, our community was again
sddened by tbe Death Angol visiting
the bnma of John D. and Emma L. uray,
aad laying bis icy baud upon their only
darling. child.
Little Ulauoa b. was but two months
and six daya of aire. While bia stay
with them was brief, it was long enough
for the bereaved parents to become very tenderly attached to bim.
Tbey nave tbe sympathy or the entire
community. While it is hard to part with our loved ones, may tbey realize tbat while ties are loosoniug on earth, they are fattening in tbat blessed Home where tears and parting am no more. "Another little lamb baa gone To dwell with liira who gave ; Another little darling babe la sheltered iu tbe grave. God needed one more angel child Amidst His shining baud, And so Ho bent Ills loving smile And clasped your darling's band." Florence Munkel.
Those who have, been quail buntiag aay tbe birds are very scarce.

Tbe complacent smile of President Cleveland and Secretary Gresbam since
tbe last newa from Hawaii was received
indicates that it contained nothing di
pleasing or disappointing to them. But no smiles are seen on the faces of those
who bad previously worked themselves
into a frenzy over tbe policy of the ad
ministration iu dealing with Hawaii
without knowing what that policy win
Tbey expected to near a sensationa
story of tbe driving of the Provisional government of Hawaii from power and
the restoration of tbe queen, by U. S
marines and sailors under conmad of
Minister Willis, and hoped tbat it would
have been accompanied by bloodshed
Therefore when tba dispatches which reached Washington Saturday afternoon
contained nothing more senaatioual than
the formal speeches of Miuister Willis
and President Dole, delivered wben the
former presented bis credentials as min
later to tbe 'Provisional government
the sensation mongers found themselves
without a leg to stand on.
Tha administration has never been
more dignified than during all tbe sense leai excitement and criticism which foN
lowed the publication of Secretary
iresbam s recommendation concerning
uawau. it had mapped out its pro
gram before Minister Willis left Wash
tBgton, and notwithstanding numerous
contrary atatemenls it bag not made the
slightest change in that program or In
ita instruction to Miuister Willig. It bat from the first been convinced that
ita course would be fully endorsed by
the unprejudiced public wben the facts
upon which action was taken become
known, and it has declined to allow pub
lie clamor to cause it to change its plans
aa to wnen inese tacts snouid be made public. That feeling is ai strong to-day aa it ever was, and when the nroner
time comes the peoplo will be takon into tbe confldencos or Mr. Cleveland, and tbey will endorse what he has done, and .a aa a . . .
iocs ntt wouia oe critics will be sorry
tney did not wait a while.
The sub-committees which have been
preparing the various schedules of the
new tariff bill have finished their work, and th-i completed bill is now being
considered by the full democratic mem
bership or the committee on Waya and Meant. While some minor changes may be made in the bill before it ia
made public It is practically finished and the republican members or the committee will probably be furnished with
printed copies or it within ten days, fo that it will be ready to rcnort to the
House during the first week of the
session. The bill has been approved by tbe President and bia cabinet and by the executive committee of the National
Democratic committee, and will not be
snbmitted to a caucus before being reported to the House. I am not ht lib
erty to giv6 any details of the bill at this
time, but can say without violating con fidence that it is from beginning to end a democratic measnre. It ia the present
atentioa of tbe nartv leaders to nuh
the bill through the Home before tbo
Christmas recess.
It It probable that tbe National Dem.
