army, but deserted the southern cause and enlisted and served until tho close

the war probably several years Thurman camo to Now Albany Ho was
very poor and sought work a a com
mon laborer, lie was given the job by
tho lato W. S. Culbertson of rubblnsr

Thurman did his work eo satisfactorily
that, in addition to the wages promised him, Mr. CuUertson presonted him a
good suit of clothes.
Thurman remained about Now Al
bany for several years and thon loft. He was not married when ho lived here,
but was a man of good conduct and always industrious. It was bolievod,
lowever, by thoso who know Thurman
here that his mind was unbalanced. In
