Homkmtkai Pa,, Jaly 1&. I'reparatkms for placing nottanion ineu in the CarMcgie milk are going forward. The Tide cante ap the river from IMUsbnrgh thk morning and prooeeded direct to the landing' place at the works. A gang of men were waiting for her and her freight, eonaktiag of eota, bianketa. tents and camp utensils were unloaded and pkced inside the mill property. The poor-farm property, whkh k inside the big fence and k now the property of the Carnegie company, contains a big level held whkh will make a good camping' ground for workmen, and the targe building whkh has been ased for the oonnty poor will hold a awBiber. It k evidently the in tontfcm of the Carnegie people to utilise thk portion of their plant, whieh k located so admirably for the purpose, as to aaggest the possibility that the present emergency was expected and carefully prepared for long in nd ranee. A number of incidents tending to encourage the lockedout men ia their position have happened to-day. Allen Hubbard, the foreman of tbu armor plate shop of the Carnegie mill, quit work to-day. He refused to work under police protection, and deekred that if the militia were to lie used for police duty in order to operate the milk he would not work there, hut would seek employment elsewhere. The entire force of the civil engineering department of the milk also quit work out of sympathy with the lockedout men. Th Non.ltRioM Xn Ar Therr. Homkktkad, Pa., July 15. There k no doubt that the nonunion workmen are inshle the gates of the Carnegie pkat, but their number k so small that they are practically a dead letter in connection with the operation of the Mis. Iltese men entered the works quktly at an hour when saspkion wns stilled and arrangements forth eir com fort until a larger force eomes to jotn them have been made. Some of them are belkved to have en tered by the river front while others came by train to Homestead ami min gled with the people without exetting suspicion. Their number cannot be as certained, but it k certain that no great body of men such as would lie re quired to run the works could have entered the mills without being seen. If the nonunion men came Inst night or in the early hours of this morning, they must, have displayed some generabdtip in eluding the many watchers who sat slong the river banks or near the entrances to the Carnegk property until daybreak. The leaders of the strikers wear an air of supreme confidence. They sny that they have won the fight and that theCaraegk company realise thk, or will realise it when they have tried the experiment of running the works for a few weeks with green hands. All interest centers in the probabk introduction of enough nonunion men to start the milk and the strikers spend most of their time dkeuasing- the situation. Some are inclined to think the Carnegk company will win. but the result does not appear to be any indication of aequiesence in the statement of Mr. Lovejoy, secretary to Mr, Kriek, that fully two-thirds of the Homestead workers will go back to their vacant posts when the mills are started. (Ira. Maswitra sou HU OnWra Wnygstted. HeMOTKAt), Pa., July 1. Opposite the main entrance to the steel works stands Carsegk's hotel. Since the arrival of troops the staff oflkers hare beea talcing their meals there. Yester day the manager of the hotel was informed by the head waiter that unless he refased to entertain Gen. The head cook also sent word that he would not prepare any more meals for members of the staff. When (lea. Sfeiowden and other inVcers repaired to the hotel yesterday morning, prepared to get away with the regukr kyottt of ham and egg, they found that they had been placed under the ban of a 1 toy cot t. There was but one waiter ht the place, and he snid it was hk painful duty to Inform the guests that they ..mid get nothing to eat; that the head cook had joined in the boycott against militkmen. and that if they waited to get a Rieal in that partieukr hostelry it would Ik? a 1 ong and dreary stay. Gen. Snowden hail not slept well, and emphatically refused to grasp the humor of the situation. Ha gave utterance to a few choice expressions and hastening back to hk headquarters, he kst no time in issuing orders to the cook with Battery B for a breakfast. a .... efTmWfiae HAnntsncHS, Pa..
