A Growing EnterpriMt. When two years sg" Mr John Bauer relumed lo JtAper ami Mari'd the 4 per MtHUlacturiug uommhv, n number "threw cold water" on the enteipriiHi, and alil it wimld never amount lo any thing. The Goumuk only wishes there waa hundred more men with Riuet's pnblie ttpirit and fnterpriae to alert dif teraitt braurhewuf manufacturing in J leper. With but a limited opllal it wts at drst iip-liMI work to get sUrled
properly, but struggling along and build, tag ap sebetsnlialiy he finally got Mr.
felebert to take a snare with him and
with his capital and energy aid the bul-
i. slaoe which time tbe nusinefts has
built ap rapidly, until the Arm are how
employing 24 heads, with a pay roil of
over 8400 a month. Their sales last
year ran ap to $47,000, and with tbe in
creasing demand for their artioles they
think it will run to $100,000 the present
year. They put iu last week a new
patent emery wheel for grinding their
veneering cutters, the second of the Kind
placed in tbe United States, aad a great
sevintr of labor. Tbev also out in a
large patent hot air blast, with over l.ouu
feet of pipes, and ealarged their drying
capacity so as to meet tbe increased de
maud for their veneer aad drawer bot
toms.
Tbe veneering eat bv them aow Is
marvel of smoothness and beauty. It
hardly seems possible that a early
kaotty walnut log should be pared into
oeg strips not thicker than heavy paper,
so aa to perfectly preserve its texture
and show all the tine craius of tbe wood,
and yet this is what ther do. and do
quiekiy, too. In drawer bottoms, also,
they take a poplar or gum log three reel
through, and in five minutes manutac
turn it into stripe of Inmber ol any given
size desired, about three-eighths of an
inch iu tbickuees. all surfaced and
shaped, ready to be tacked on tbe bot torn of drawers, or made iuto light pack iug caeeeof any kind.
This new machinery aad their skillful
bands, puts this among the leading man
ufactories of Jasper, and their example should' incite others to do something
that will give employment to tbe in
dastrioue and build our town up in
manufactories to the point its superior
location and facilities iastifv.
Just now a good canning factory
would be a profitable investment in J as per, and some of our men who are put
ting their money at interest could make
it pay them better, and do the com
munity at large a benefit, by putting their money into one, and pushing it, as
naeer x siebert have done tbe atanarac turiag Company.
