Miss Helen Hose Is visiting friends at
Huutineburg this week.
Samuel Dillon has recently sold his
farm near Bethell church, and will prob
ably go west to engage In btthluess with
Ins son Lllis, formerly or Indiana.
W. DcMoite has removed to his farm
where ho will now hmdn his earner as
farmer- It ban not been long ago since
he was married to one of the most ao
complished ladies of Ireland, and being
well situated iu business, Ins future full of promise for success.
Frank Laos ford has gone west, with the intention of settling down to business there. He has for some time pat been one of tiie most prominent citizens of Topeka, and bis loss will bo keenly felt. The election difficulties between Messrs. Alford and Flint havo at last boon settled, after a long and careful investigation, Chief Justico T. H. Grocu presiding. Il was decided that Flint whs elected Gov, of Topeka by a small
majority. J. B. Hose then administered
the oath of office, and Flint was duly sworn in and at once assumed the duties of his ollice, and Usued a proclatn-Mion
for the peoplo of Topeka to observe
Ground-hog day. We give expression
to our lipart-felt sympathy with Mr Alford, in defeat, by the following Hues:
"He who from tfae battle run away, May lire io tight another day, But ti who l In tl.e battle tltln, Will never live to light ag-alu." Madison Holder and Or. James Wilson
have formed a partnership for the prac
tice of medicine. Dr. Wilson is an old
and experienced physician and is well
known throughout the country, Holder has lately began the practice of medicine, having studied under Dr. Wilson. They
will locate at the cross-roads, near the
residence of T. II. Green.
Gov. Flint has appointed M. L. An
derson to succeed Isreal Adams as Pres.
of the Adams Express Co. Mr. Anderson is an energetic busbies man, fa
miliar with public life and admirably
equipped for his profession. He will doubtless discharge the duties of his of
fice, by tho same high erder or talent,
that he exhibits whenever put to a test.
and if we may be accepted as a competent tu (lee ot other men's capacities and
adanttaions, we would say that Gov.
Flint's choice la ib every respect a wise
one.
The Ireland correspondent to the
Argus now comes forth and says that
we Indorse Charley Btallcup's misconduct. No, not at all. What we said
was not intended to Indorse such an-act,
Hut it was intended to give expression to our disgust at his manner of picking
un and inaklutra blow or things that in
no way concerns him or his affairs. We
think it very imprudent indeed, for one
wbo Is ao far from being a model of per
feet on himself, to put Himself to so
much trouble to hunt up tho misdoings
of others to make a blow of. But still
greater, however, is our contempt, when
he throws hie slang at men who are
peaceable, law abiding citizens. For In
stance bis savage attacks upon Mr. Gill,
a man who labors for the good and gen
eral welfare of all, and whom he so bit
terly onnoees. because he speaks his sen
timente. As to his kind and brotherly
advice to Stallctip, we would suggest
that he keep half of It; although he needs all of it; and at for his going to the prohibition party, we aro not at all alarmed at the prospect, bat will furnish
kiat a free fe m 100a ai no
five Juducs. any three of whom shall

Districts hereby created.
