The news that the Indians had taken ltaitleiord caused intense excitement In this city yesterday, and the Government is making active preparations for hurrying forward troops and munitions ot war. From the elaborate preparations of the officials, it Is evident that a protracted Indian war la believed to be at hand. The Government is endeavoring to secure the good offices of Archbishop Tactic, who has great influence with the half-breeds, in quieting those people and prevailing ou them to seek a peaceful solution of their griev ances. I he first detachment ot troops are expected to reach Winnipegon Thurs day. The Premier is in receipt ot a num ber of dispatches bearing on the Insurrection, but he refuses to make their contents known until he lays them before the Cabinet. There was great excitement in the House last night hen Sir Hector Langevene announced that a dispatch just received from Battleford stated that the Stoney Indians had taken the warpath and were advancing ob the settlement.
