Ur last Monday Mr. Sawn el Dilloa, of Martian township, executed mot trave n hi farm in Madison township, t)ik county, to tecurc hi home creditors, to Dr. E. A. GleaH.and oh his store and personal property in Otwell. Tike county, to secure his general creditors, and hk place of business whi closed. It is reported hi liabilities amount to about f 8.00 and his assets probably $5,000. Thii h a heavy blow to the business of Otwell, He he wa the most extensive Center there. It U said to have betMi brought about by a too liberal credit Inicineae, and tiie impossibility of realiz
ing in the present tijfht conditions of
finance. We (suppose he could pav a
email per ceiitage of his indebtedness, if
a slight extension was made him, anil probably some effort will be made to compromise hi indebtedness on such a basis as will enable him to resume busihe could then collect his outstanding accounts with less expense tfiau an assignee. IIish License. A bill is pending in
the Legislature providing that persons engaging in selling liquor at wholesale ar retail in Indiana shall pay a liceuse if StX), and a rood deal of discussion
has arisen therefrom. So far it does not teem to have taken a partisan turn, as
members of each party have avowed themselves for and against it, though it
appears as if a majority of the Democrats
were opposed to any interference with the present law, considering it efficient
when properly enforced. In discussing the bill very Rev. Ang. Bessonies, vicar general of the Vinceanes diocese, comes
nut In a card taking strong grounds in
favor of a hitch license. After imploring
Doth democrats and republicans to sap port a bill of that character, the dieting
aiched ecclesiastic concludes: "At the
aatlonal convention of the Catholic To
ul Abstinence Union of America, held
in Chicago last August, every member Appeared to be in favor of high license, and I have never heard any objection to it except from keepars of small saloons.

in niacin the affairs of the comimnv in
good eMttpe. Interviewed by the Louia ville Courier-Jownial, Col. Kreneh aid iu answer to the tj nest ion. "What disposition will be wade of the road through the reeeivership?" "It is too t'arly to say much on the sub-
Meet," he replied, ''as no plan of action
has bem mapped out I have come to
confer with the receiver and aid him ail I can in getting everything in good shape, sh that the interests of all may be taken care of. I am the chairman of a committee appointed at a recent meeting
of the Extern landholders to confer with the Louisville bondholders. and request them to appoint two members on!
the committee, and thereby wenre unity of action iu hiiv plans that may te adopt
ed looking to the future weltUreof the
road. 1 will meet the Louieyille gentleineu and lay the matter before them, aud
ten go to Now Orleans on business. I
will return about February 10, by which
time they will nrob'thly act upon the
suggestion from the Eat, and I hope to
meet the members they may appoint on the committee. The committee U instructed to tnako a thorough iuveslitfa-
tion of the condition of the road, its ia-
ci titles and necessities, and report what
will be required to put it in first-class
condition.
'It has been rumored very frequently
that the road was for srtle. What cau you say on that subject ?"
"les, such rumors have been arcu
ated and have done the road a great deal
ni, though they were absolutely
untrue. Some men have fannied that
they could sell the road without authori
ty Irom its owners, but they have not
succeeded yet. The road has never been
for sale, aud is not now. Of course, it
mis encountered obstacles like any other
new road, which have interfered verv
much with its successful operation, but
ts owners have confidence in its future,
and have at last succeeded in eettmst in
a position to nurse it and bring it out of
ts troubles. In the first place the origi
nal cost of the road was much greater
than the company had been led to think
it would be. and the management has
not been able to bring it out of its earlv
troubles, thousrh it has been doing a good
and growing bushier right along. The
increase tn its earnings during the last
few months has been very gratifying,
and that too, in the face of serious draw
backs in the matter of rolling stock and
motive power, aud if it was well equipped now it, would be doing a large busi
ness. It runs through a fertile farming
country that will build up a first-class
road, and which has been of immense
value to iew Albany and Louisville
since the road wan opened. Iu view ol
the financial condition of the road, the
rondholders concluded to place it in the
lands ofa receiver, in order that all the
creditors might he put eu an equal foot
n if, and all questions iu dispute settled
under orders from the court.
"will the committee ot which you are
chairman consider a plan for the reor
ganization of the comp inv ?"
"Thev will first ascertain what is nec
essary to thoroujrhlv equip the road am
place it in a condition to oner facilities
to shippers and the country through
which it passe?, and after that is accom
plished they will probably consider the
question or reorganization, but their pri
mary cvject is to put the road on its feet
which they bow have a good opportuui
ty to do."
"Will there be any conflict between
the bondholders and the stockholders?'
"We have no fear of anything of the
kind. The bondholders own a majority
of the stock and it is the intention to
protect the interest of alt alike, and make
their property more valuable. The past
year has shown that the road can he
made first-class in all respects and that
is what we are all anxious to accomplish
No plan of reorganization has been susf
gfsted yet and of course nothing definite can be said on that subject. The matter
will come up for consideration arirr
those now iu hmd are disposed of. We
feel satisfied that the road will work ou
its own salvation if it is giveu a chsHce."
"What do you think or the business
prospects of the country ?"
1 think we are entering on a better
and safer era. There will be a gradual
improvement in business and the rail
roads will be the first to feel the return
ofthe better times. In fact they already
indicate a better feeling by their lncreas
ed earning. 1 do not look for a rapid
resumption of trade in all channels, bnl
better time are eominr. and the more
gradually they come the more solid aud
substaatia) the prospects will be."
