as he. attempted to speak, Hon. Austin
H. Isrown. of Marion a counfv which
cast a solid vote for Landers moved that he be nominnied Lieutenant-Governor by acclamation. This was a happy thought, and took like wild-fire. Countv
after county seconded the nomination,
delegations sprang to their feet, and in
an instant the Convention out-ran the
check-rein and became unmanageable.
Don. John Lee, of Montgomery, was the
Mrst to secure recognition and withdraw

candidates hastened to fellow suit, and
the climax was reached when John Enos
Jfctr, or llandolph, the most bitter and uncompromising enemy Gray had in thc Held, pledged the allegiance of tho llan

itself Governor Hendricks put thc motion, which was accepted with a yell. The Governor then introduced the candidate for Lieutenant-Governor, with thc remark that a stronger and better ticket

Indiana than Landers ana tiray, and he predicted there wouldn't he Kepublicans enough fo keep in sight of them, There was another outbreak of applause, but finally Colonel Gray found opportunity to say.

How I discharged the duties of that position is now a part of the political history of Indiana. 1 was nominated at that timo without solicitation on my part. This Convention to-day, ngain representing the Democracy of Indiana, have in tfcc exercise of its political wisdom seen proper to nominate me again bv acclamation Its candidate for LieutenantGovernor. This is a compliment that has rarely been paid to any citizen of Indiana m far as my remembrance goes. I would he less than a'mau if I failed to appreciate it. The Local Trade Company have concluded that further efforts to buy the E. & E. road are useless, and have determined to build their line through from Evansville to Genfryville. They havo presented a petition to the Board of Commissioners to order aa election on the proposition, to vote them a two per cent, tax in this township, on the oendltion that they build through from Evansville,. and run on the north side of Boonville, locating their depot within a half mile north of the Court-house Doonville Enquirer.
