After whicb the audience was greeted with some delkhted strains of music from the organ by the manipulation of Miss Mellie Unpen, the accomplished music teacher of Ireland. The first exerclse was by A. M. Sweeney, principal Of tbe Jasper schools, on the subject of "Low to make school attractive", and was presented in that genial and impressive manner, so characteristic of that gentleman, that It conld not fail to meet with the approval or all who heard bin. "How to keep children employed", was presented by J. M. Pleasant ia a very forcible manner, followed by J, B. Madden, expressing his most utter contempt for and condemnation of the auhlJsseat in the school house at this plaos. After calling the io)l, reading and adopting: the minutes of the previous day's meetnsr, tho secretary informed the president that he had been unable to purchase- a locket looking glass in Ireland, but that ie had made the purchaso of the bandanna handkerchief. On motion the president was to purchase tho looking glass at Jasper aud present the same with tue compiuneuta or tins association to Miss Oppelt. Mr Cooper was then conducted to the desk of the secretary, where the latter proceeded to present nm the bandanna handkerchief, closing with tbe injunction that should he ever meet with an uglier man than himself, to present him with tho handkerchief ou the spot. After aa anecdote by Mr. G. C. Cooper, which created a great deal of mirth, he presented the hand kerchief to J. W. Condill. Next was the reading of a paper bn "the injurious influence of indulging In slang." Miss Dora Hope was uext to read a paper subject "thorns and flowers that strew tho teacher's pathway." - On motion Miss Hope was 'requested to furnish a copy of her essay to the association for publication. A voto of thanks was tendered i the as sociatiou to tbe citizens of Ireland and vicinity. "Educate a boy aud he wont work", was the closing sunicci uy w . L. Edmouston, after which tho commit tee on resolutions reported the follow Inz which were adopted: Whereas, it is currently reported that there are some men iu this county, who call themselves teachers and who arc publishing an Opinion that "teachers associations are a public nuisance", and whereas, it is tho opinion of this associ atiou that the profession of teaching is an honorable one. and Its successful practice as important as any other pro fession now being practiced by civilized and enlightened nations, and whereas, all other professions have learned the utility and intrinsic value ofassociations and conventions. Resolved, that we recognize in the Dubois county teachers associatlos an advauce step in the right direction, and we hereby declare our intention never to recede from the position gained, but to use our best endeavors to make our meetings still more effective iu driving ignorance, uperstitiou.old-fogyism, bur headativeness, rule-or-ruln lunacy, and all the little contemptible qualities so injurious to the profession, from our ranks, by moulding public opinion in such a shape, that such qualities will not receive recognition or support. Resolved, that the thanks of tbo asso elation he tendered to the officers of this body for services rcudered ; to tho County superintendent for his pretence and assistance ; to Miss Mollle Uppelt, aud choir, for tho soul stirring music furnished ; to W. . The report of the special committee was road, being comments and synopsis oi tno several papers read, which was accepted and adopted. On motion the secretary wa? instructed to furnish a copy of tho minutes and the summary of the proceeding of this meeting as furnished by tbe committee to the following papers for publication : Jasper Courier, Jasper Times, Hantlngburgh Signal and Ireland Argus.
