It would be a great improvement during the dark nights. icy Work is progressing on the abutments of the new bridge, under the superintendence of the contractor, Mr. W. T. Washer, and it looks as though s good job was being: done. (KTMesers. J. B. Kossuer, and family, Mrs. Sweeney, Geo. Swint, Miss Maggie

DieasACKKin.. Two cases of " provoke," tinder that nuisance of a law, which ought to be repealed, were tiled last week for next Circuit Court, and the parties are now under bail, one against Mr. A. S. Lagle and the other against Mrs. Dr. IHgham. The causes grew out of the pernicious habit o'f gossiping about other people, and should be a warning to our 'people not to talk scandal about their neighbors. "Wo do not know which sido is to blame nor care but it is all disgraceful in good society, and we hope there will be loss ot it.

FMr. Kremp and family, are on a visit to old friends at Tell City. Wc wish them a pleasant trip. Their old Switzer says he wants it to be more pleasant than his effort to fix.thblr carriage, which made him "throw up" the job.

Mr. David Hamilton was chosen Superintendeat;0. A. Trippett, assistant Superintendent; T. Withers, Secretary; John Dillen, Treasurer; Lottie Doane, Librarian. (CJ-Thc Board of County Commissioners were in session last Saturday, and accepted the proposition of the contractors for the iron work of the Patoka bridge to make it ono psiiol, of thirteen feet, longer, for the additional sum of $100. This increase in length was rendered necessary by finding that tho projection of rock on tho south cud was not sound, and is considered a favorable
contract, though a good many think
money might have been saved to too
county by finding out the defect in foundation rock before the contrart was let. This will mako tho brldgo 117 feet lonsr.
It would be a groat advantage in time of high water to have it yet 13 feet longer,
as an immense amount of water will
hack up above when the grade of Mill stroct is raised above high water, as it must be before long.
