In framing tables of the chances ef marriage he has discarded the old method latere groups) and has adopted a method of framing tables by groups aad by correepondisg ages. He BghUy ineiete that age has a great deal to do with marnaee. He arose first to Hol land for statistics, because there, better than anywhere else, tabka can be fram ed of baebelor.t aad widowers. He savs j that ia Hollaad young men between 22 and Z4 years om annuaiir marry in tbe proportion of 46 per 1 ,099. Those who become widowers at this age marry ia tbe proportion of SIS per l.dOO-tbatw, five time more th.au bachelors. At the ace when mea marrv that ie. between StS and 85 kaekelors annually marry ia tke proportion of 119 per 1,000, while widowers marry in tke proportion of ate per 1,000. After 25 mea feel less inclination to marry, but ertn during these chilling years ihree or four widowers marry to one baehelor. In Switz erland, four times more widowers than kaekelors marrr. Ia Hollaad. Switzer land, England, Belgium, Franee, where ae.ui naeneiors marry, m widowers buy plain gold rings. Ia Fraaee, Paris exeepted, mea ntarry most between 20 and 25. In Park few people marry between 20 aad 26. In Paris tke greatest number of marriaees take place after men are 4U and after women are 2d ; after these periods tke mtximum of marriages take place aad the per centum surpaeeee that of all France, and raises, as i above seen, tke average age of marriage from 20 26 to 25 3. i Lecturer Allen ef Harvard holds that in many of the topic taught it would be an immense gain if text-books ia common schools were entirely abolished wkh the exception of some very brief manual of dates and results as a guide to memory. History, physics, and astronomy, for example, should be taught orally, and Mr. Allen adds that m tbe growing accumulation and cost erf text-books, and tke crowding of school work, thie method will be the only eeeape from a breakdown of the entire system. - m m Umbrellas are now Made of paper)
