At a reeent Cabinet meeting the Indian question was considered at length. Among tke questions, discussed were tke relations of tke Canadian Government to our own, in tke event of a hostile movement southward of Sitting-Bull and his band; the habeas corpus eae of Standing Bear, now in tke custody o Gen. Crook; the wisdom of tke policy of keeping Northern Indians ia southern latitudes against their wish, if they were disposed to be peaeeful at tke North. Secretary Sehurz took the ground that to promote the best interests of both whites and Indians, it was necessary that tke Indians should he kept upon their reservations, and out of the way of bad white men, who would incite or provoke them to acts of violence. No definite oonolusion in relation to any branch of the subject wa reached. Tke President has nominated Robert P. Wilson of Pennsylvania, Consul at Hosoow. Tke Chicago Tribune's Washington special nays that the Republican Senatorial Caucus, held on tke 12th, " unanimously agreed to disregard the position assumed by Gen. Garfield that the rider to the ArmyAppropriation bill could be accepted if presented as a separate measure. As an abstract proposition they would not approve the political amendments in a separate bill, much less will they consent to their adoption at amendments to the appropriation bills. While tkere were some fears expressed in the oaueus that the President might approve the Army bill, and that Secretaries Sehurz and Kyart and Attorney-General Duvens might counsel such course, the general opinion was that the President would stand rm. At all events, whatever the President night do, the Republican Senators determined for their part to resist to the very last extremity tke passage of this political legislation. This augurs a protracted discussion and a long session." Crop prospects In Kansas kave been rendered unusually promising by reason of reeent eopieus rains. Tke house of "W. S. Fuller, in Plymouth County, Iowa, was burned on the ftb. In trying to rescue her three children Mrs. Fuller lost her own life, and Mr. Fuller was so badly injured that his recovery was doubtful. Tke three children were all badly burned. A Deadwood (D. T.) dispatch of the 10th nays: A party of seven Indians attacked Sergeant Kennedy, late Signal Observer at Deadwood, and a private soldier named Bader, of the 2d Cavalry. The two men were eating lunch at Mizpah, 45 miles from Fort Keogh, their destination, when fired upon. Bader was Instantly killed and Kennedy badly wounded. The latter crawled into the brush and kept the Indians etl with his six-shooter until assistance arrived, fiader was scalped.
