The victims of the assassin were a farmer named John IX Vaeelet, his wife, and two sons, aged 14 and IK. An examination of the premises showed that Provosts story was untrue in several particulars. All feur were killed with an ax. The bodies of the two sons were lying in bed, as was aleo that of the mother; the father had apparently been aroused by the noise, and gofeg into the adjoining room to seek the cause, had been stricken down and killed upon the threshold. It Is said that Vaeelet had received about $1,000 in cash for some cattle sold on the day preceding the murder, and this was meet prehably the incentive to the crime. Provost was arrested, and there was oessideraWe talk of lynchmg him upon the The lease of the Denver and Rio Grande i Railroad by the Atchison, Topeka and San-1 ta Fe, takes effect December 1 next and runs i for 80 years.
