Au Ml Attempt to Eld-tap Cklld. , Pku (W. Y.) t'orrespondenee K,w Turk 8uB Jacob Decker, living near Rhoda Uke about two miles from that place, ha a daughter about three years of age. Yesterday afternoon, while she was playing in her yard, her shouts attracted her mother. Going out, Mm. Decker found a large eagle attempting to carry off the little one. Almost frantic with fright, she aeiaed the child and rushed towards the house. No sooner had ahe caught the child than the eagle showed fight. It followed Mrs. Decker, peck ing savagely at the little girl, several times touching her hair with its beak ; but, by running raj-idly and shielding the child as best she could, she managed to reach the house in safety. Enraged at being thus cheated of its prey, the eagle flew against the door and beat furioujly against the windows, as if determined to effect an entrance, until Mrs Decker, fearing it might break in, hid her child in a closet for greater security. A t nightfall the bird

flew away. Early this morning the eagle strain made its appearance. After flying wildly around, it perched upon a tree hard by the house, apparently awaiting an opportunity to renew the attack. As soon aa she discovered the bird, Mrs. Decker notified the neighbors, and it was shot. It proved to be a bald American eagle, measuring seven feet between the tips of its wings. Singnlar Scene In Court. At a court trial in Providence, R. L, lately, the suit being brought to recover money won at laro Ty fraudulent practices, an expert was called in who took his seat at a faro-table and played the gam the counsel and other spectators betti 4 on the cards. Playing with hon -1 cards, the luck waa found to be mostly with the bank ; but with a set of "strippers," or cards prepared by trimming, such aa it was alleged had been used in the case tried, the favors of fortune were found to be wholly with the bank, and the spectators were readily convinced that gambling is an immoral thing. A Good Shot. Out in Kansas the other day a man was arrested charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. He had shot the plaintiff through the thigh, and contended that there was no intent to kill, because, with his reputation for "deadly aim," he could have killed him if he wanted to. To test hi skill he and the Justice retired to the rear of the office, where the defendant, at twenty paces, put six balls into :he bottom of an oyster can in as many seconds. l'ion returning to the court tha defenddant was discharged on the ground that such an excellent "shot" could not possibly have any intent to kill. Criminal Secrecy. The martinets of the medical profession insist that it is beneath the dignity of a regular physi cian to advertise. If a member of the faculty should discover an absolute remedy for any disease it would be a breach of professional decorum to offer the specific for sale through the journals of the day. Scorning such prejudices one of our leading practitioners is now making known to the public, through the columns of over three thnu-and new8psjers, on of the most comprehensive remedies for disease that ha t-ver assuaged the sufferings of humanity. Dr. Walk er's Californ i a Vine gar Bitters, although comparatively a new medicine, has already attracted the attent ion of millions in both hemi-pheres. It baa been advertised through all the channels accessible to advertising enterprise, and the result has been the preservation of thousands of lives, and the prevention of sn untold nmount of physical torture. Dr. Walker thinks that the " greatest good of the greatest number " is the true object of medical science, and hence he steps boldly out of the contracted circle of professional exclusiveness, and places his Great Restorative within the reach of all. Its beneficial effect in cases of chronic dyspepsia, biliousness, kidney disease, gout, diseases of throat and lungs, rheumatism, nervous complaints, and all disorders of the secretive and excretive organs, is beyoud all estimate. Com. A Detroit man, who lately "swore off" on chewing tobacco, let himself down easy by chewing something else. His first day's supply of something else consisted of six oranges, fourteen apples, ten cents' worth of peanuts, two ricks of spruce gum, three large sticks of candy, a pint of roasted chestnuts, one cake of maple sugar, three cents' worth of licorice root, and half an ounce of camomile blows. The question arises, which is wor.fe, the tobacco or this miscellaneous substitute. Wr clip the followine from the Troy up IN. Y.) WMfJ Some threo months since lr. R. V. Tierce, of Buffalo, In'. We believed at that time it was one of the may catch-penny arrsnpementa to Kwindlo peojle out of their money, but during the past fow weeks have become convinced to the contrary. We know of several prominent citizens who have suffered from that loathsome disease "Catarrh," and they pronounce Dr. Sage's Remedy no humbug, and in several instances have been entirely cured. We desire to give Dr. Pierce the benefit of the same. 598 Decidedly the best remedy that has ever been discovered ror rheumatism, swol len or stiff joints, flash wounds, sprains bruises, cuts, and burns, is Joknton'n Anodyne Liniment. Ayer's Hair Vigor, For restoring to Gray Hair its natural Vitality and Color. A dressing which is at once agreeable, healthy, and effectual for preserving tha hair. It soon restores faded or gray hair to its original color, with tha Sloss and freshness of youth. Thin air is thickened, falling hair checked, and baldness often, though not always, cured by its use. Nothing can restore the hair where the follicles are deBtroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed; but such as remain can be saved by this application, and stimulated into activity, so that a new growth of hair is produced. Instead of fouling the hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent the hair from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. The restoration of vitality it gives to the scalp arrests and prevents the formation of dandruff, which is often so uncleanly and offensive. Free from those deleterious substances which make some preparations dangerous wd injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, .' - ft Mt aa as 1 1 nothing else can be tovnd so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it a rich, glossy lustre, and a grateful perfume. Prepared by Dr. J. 0.
