The scrubbing brush is left iu the witter. - Bo net are burned that would make mm Nice handled kuives are thrown into hot water. Brooms are never hung up, and soon are spoiled. Dish cloths are thrown where mice can destroy them. Tubs and barrels are left in the sun to dry and fall apiirt. Clothes are left on the line to whip to pieces in the wind. Pie crust is left to sour, instead of making a few tarts for tea. Vegetables are thrown away that would warm for breakfast. Dried fruit is not taken care of in season, and becomes wormy. Bits ef meat are thrown out that would make hashed meat or hash. The cork is left out of the raoiasses jug. and the flies take possession. Pork spoils for the want of salt, and beef because the brine wants scalding. Coffee, tea, pepper and spices are left to stand open and lose their strens'h. Potatoes in the cellar grow, and the sprouts are not removed until they become useless.
The bread is sifted in a wastefnl ner, ana ine oreau-pan leu wua me dough sticking to it. Vinetrar is drawn in a basin, and al lowed to stand until both basin and viugar are spoiled. Cold puddings are considered good for nothing, when often they can be steamad for the next da v. Hon. It. C. Kf.rr. While it 19 true that no one man has any right to a monopoly in office, it is equally true that offices were not created for individual benefit, but to carry out a plan of government tor the good of the people. The people's interests are therefore the first items of consideration in selecting candidates and officers. If it so happens that the interest of the governed requires that an incumbent shall continue in office, individual rights ought always to yield. The Second Congressional District, since it has been given out that Kerr will not be a candidate, is in a muddle and half a dozen second rate: Eiliticians are "battlewhanging" every emocratic meeting iu that district for the nomination. Kerr has been forced off the track by pressure from the present aspirants for a place that none of them can till as well as he. For untiring energy, ceaseless devotion to the public interests, no man in Congress ranks higher than Kerr. Ever since he entered Congress he hasl been m the mmonty struggling for thel uccess of Democratic principles against an overpowering domineering Radicalism. Now when the enemy is just be ginning to yield under the assaults and exposures of such tireless heroes as Kerr, this great champion of the people is to be withdrawn, and merely to gratify a few gentlemen who want to sro to Con gress. We are sorry to see the Demo-1 cratic power at Washington weakened at this time. We say this much, although personally Kerr is no friend of ours, even when ws were in his district, but in all truth we believe that the second district will not: In fifty years have another such a Representative in Congress. If Kerr is thus foolishlv forced out of the House, the Democracy of Indiana, more grateful1 than his own district, ought to mnkc him a United States Senator, and if they have the power we believe they will. I Cannelton Enquirer. Kerr foF Governor. We are glad to see that quite a number of Democratic papers are m-pring the nomination of Hon. M. C. Kerr for Governor. He baa been our choice from the first We understand Jthat Mr. Kerr is not an aspirant for any position. His private affairs peed his attention, and justice to himself and his family demands that they should be put in better shape, and his wasted fortune, never very large. recuperated. But he will not refuse to serve in any position in which he may be placed, if the people call him. Mr. Kerr is one of the foremost men of the country. Everywhere he is recognized an one of the ablest champiois of the people. His honesty, his devotion to principle, his aims' which tend only to the good of the country, his given the people confidence in bim, and they will yet see that he shall be rewarded for the labor he has done, and the sacrifices he has made, in the last eight years. Seymour Democrat. Sewing Machine Patents. The application of Mr. A.)B. Wilson for a second extension of his twice reissued Sewing Machine patent, is attracting considerable attention in patent circles at Washington. .It is said, if no more sewing machine patents are extended, the whole business of making the best of them will be free and open to whoever pleases to engage in it within fifteen months. By the first of July, 1873, the foot motion feed will be public property if the patent are not extended, and then it will be possible to make a first-class sewing machine without paying the combination for the privilege. Thesekfacta are from the Washiutrton City Chronicle, which says in its concluding paragraph : "The price of good sewing machines will be likely to be down to twenty or twenty-five dollars before many months. The three-price days for tnese arc nearly over. ftTIf Ton have a Morl tbinff ise i If ou lisMu't do. 't alitor
