Moore's Rural New Yorker. Potators. At a recent meeting ot a District Agricultural Society, at Aetna Ohio, when the subject of potatoes V8B under discussion, Mr. Jaraesa B. Warren gave his experience in rais ing potatoes. lie had great success with a variety called the Misker Kos set. It was an early potato. He planted in rows, and always in March, whatever the kind of potato, if he could get his ground ready. The Shaker Kussete rotted very little, and the Early Goodrich bad sufiered scarcely any from that cause. The Peachblows bad rotted worse than any other variety except the Neehannocks. Col. Innis considered the Irish Caps hardly worth culivation in comparison with other and better varieties. Eight acres of potatoes bad brought him $2,000 in cash in 1864. His yield of Keshan nocks last year was 150 bushels pet acre. He thought the ruesbannock, it planted early in March in proper soil, would yield as any other variety unleae it was tbe Early Goodrich or others of that class! which would, ot course, excel it in produeticenew. lie bad harvested 200 bushels to tbe acre of Early Goxxl xicbes which were an excellent quality of potato, whitemeated and quiCKbaking. Tbey had a potato about Columbus called theouth American, which came from Chili, and was an excellent variety as early as tbe earliest and as good as the best. The Buckeye liked well so far as he bad tried it. Col. Innia continued bis roof tbe result of bis experience in po tato raising, at considerable length. In answer to a question regarding the "moon theory7 in ibatlbransb of agri culture, he said he did not com pre hend its obilosopy, though be sup posed tbe moon might have a slight influence upon vegetation. Hie method of raising: potatoes was to plant them in rows both ways: plow ing scarcely less than ten inches deep, taking care to make a perfect furrow all the way. He would put just one potato in a bill, 28 inches apart each way, and get as large a yield and of mach better quality than with more seed planted. Whitewashing. Ad important item in spring cleaning and fixing up is whitewashing. We clip the tolow inff from the North Western Farmer: ror an out-door whitewash we know of nothing better than the fol lowing: Taxe halt a bushel ot fresh burnt lime and pour on enough water to slack it. When it gets hot stir in about a pound of tallow and mix it well. Then add bot water to make it thin enough to use. rfr"Everv srarden should have well assorted bed of useful herbs. The present month is a good time to plant thyme, sage, mint, balm and other perennial herbs which rosy be planted with much advantage to tke cultivator. TT3 Victory belongs to him who is constant ja faith aid coarage.
