Boon A lad from Iowa writes us. that he thinks farmers' sona ought to have a hance to earn something for themaelve, to be allowed to maka little venturea in stock-raising for pocket money, and to keep them contented at home. We think so too. We suppose a great many farmers do this, certainly the great majority ot our leaders do. Dut many work their tioys with aa little consideration aa thev work hired men. Thev take no pains to make the farm life atractive, and the boys are oft at the earliest opportunity. They uave no joyous memories to bind them to the spot that ottgitt to be the dearest on earth. Tho roads are not laid oat, made, or repaired with reference to economy of draft in miner them. Deep ruts are soon worn in them by the common vehicles that pass over them; ami ttiese grow vrorae and worse, until they are almost impassable in spring. Broad tiers are a psrtial remedy for these Unser vokes. both for oxen, and for double horse wagons and carta, compelling the teams to walk in the same fine with the wheels that come after them, wonld be a still better remedy. Ob most country roads there are two toe-paths and two ruts, and it is noticeable that the toe paths are al waya in much the better order. Longer yokes would bring the paths and ruta together. The feet of the teams would break down the sides of the ruts, and till them as fast as they were formed. This wdnld improve road bed, aud make the drall of loads easier. We cannot ahorton the axle tree without increasing the danger of npsetting, but we can lengthen the yokes with safety. Legislation is needed. Fr.acEa. Poor feneea are a temtation to cattle, and induce bad habita. Look especially to those around grain fields, which will bo attractive.
