Prince Bismarck’s organ, the Norik German Gazette, says in its issue of the 12th that the relations of Germany and France are friendly and satisfactory. The Catholic Bishops of Prussia have •concluded to dissolve the religious orders which the State tolerates rather than conduct them under Governmental supervision. An Old Catholic school in Silesia was mobbed on „ the 12th by “ a crowd of women.” Thk Japanese portion of the island of Saghalien has been ceded to Russia. Bechet ary Bristow was informed on the 12th of additional seizures of distilleries. A Washington telegram of the same date says a searching investigation will be made into the conduct of the Supervisors and other prominent internal revenue officials, with a view to secure (he prompt’ punishment of the parties engaged in the whisky frauds. *■ Nothing was known at the Executive Mansion on the 12th of the reported intended resignation of Secretary Fish at the end of the present fiscal year. Mrs. Woodhull was present in court on the 12th by subpsena from the defense, who applied to the Judge to direct her to deliver up certain letters of Mr. Tilton. Mr. Fullerton objected to this unless the defense put her on the stand as a witness. Judge Neilson declined to order her to produce the papers, leaving the matter to her discretion. After a brief explanation in which she said the letters contained nothing diser editable to her or to the party writing them, she delivered up the papers,<«nd they were examined by. the counsel but were not used before the jury. Mr. Moulton, was recalled and contradicted much of the testimony of Mr. Beecher. He was cot cross-exam-ined. Stephen Pearl Andrews identified the signat«m*.qf Col. Blood, and then the prosecution rested. Mr. Freeland was recalled and contradicted Mr. Bowen’s testimony, relative to the alleged interview between Messrs. Beecher and Bowen at his house? Mrs. Ovington contradicted the testimony of Messrs.- Martin and Tilton relative to Mr.Teacy’s interview with Miss Tujner at her house on the 28th of July, 1874. The nintli annual reunion of the Grand Army of the Republic, recently held in Chicago, was largely attended by veteran soldiers and officers from all parts of the country.
The steamer Faraday has found the United States direct cable. The National Temperance Convention met at Pittsburgh on the 13th. The evidence in- the Beecher trial was closed ob the 18th. The testimony of Henry C. Bowen was contradicted by Messrs. Eggleston, Claflin and Storrs, and a portion of it confirmed by his son, John E. Bowen. The court adjourned to the 19 th, The Toledo-Blotto of the 18th publishes a crop report based, upon statements from 150 points in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, , Missouri and lowa. John F. Hartranft, of Pennsylvania, Com-mander-in-Chief for the ensuing year. The following ticket has been nominated by the Republicans of Kentucky: For GdvCrnor, Gen. Johh M. The wreck of the Schiller was examined by divers on the 14th. They found her broken up—S Confused mass “of 1 iron and timbers. A Santander telegram of the 14th says the Carlists had shelled Guetaria and inflicted great damage. The Pastmaster-General has issued an order forbidding payment of postal money orders drawn to the order of L. D. Sine, engaged in conducting a gift enterprise. A Philadelphia dispatch of the 14th says the miners in some sections of the State were beginning work under protest. An outbreak had recently occurred among the miners in Fayette County and fifty pf the ringleaders had been arrested and put in jail. Four convicts at Sing Sing leaped upon a locomotive which was passing through the gate at the prison on the 14th, and presenting revolvers at the engineer and fireman compelled them to get off, and then but the engine loose from the train and ran it off, making their escape. The New York Assembly has passed resolutions calling upon the Government to recognize the belligerent rights of the Cubans. The feud between the James boys and the Youngers has been settled, and they are again operating together, havilg recently ,purchased some of the fleetest horses in the State with a view of committing further depredations. y - A Black Huis party, consisting of forty-two men, six wagons and twentytwo horsea, were brought to Fort Randall, D. T., on the 18th, by a detachment of troopi under Lieut. Armstrong, They

The pests have started on thetf line of march in a northwesterly direction, and at last accounts were* destroying everything green in their way. The steamer Senator, plying between Portland and Oregon City, a few days ago exploded her boiler, rendering the vessel a complete wreck’amf killing the Captain and several of the crew. The alleged principal in the recent conspiracy against the life of Bismarck, one Danin, has been arrested at Cracow. A Roman journal, La Voce Delia Verita, has been suspended for publishing the Pope’s recent address to the German pilgrims. Judge Pierrepont, the new AttorneyGeneral, took charge of Jus office in Washington on the 15th. The Postmaster-General has ordered that the rate of postage on letters sent to or received from foreign countries with which other rates have not been established, when forwarded by vessels regularly employed in transporting the mail, be reduced from ten to five cents for each half- ounce or fraction thereof, On the 15th Red Cloud, Bpotted Tail and seven other Sfoux Indian chiefs and an interpreter reached Washington. The Secretary of the Treasury has called for $5,000,000 coupon bends, upon_ which the interest will cease on and after Aug. 15 next. , ,

Britton (Dem.) has been elected Mayor of St. Louis, vice Arthur B.*Barrett, The Governor’s Guards, a military company of Springfield, Ill.* won the prize banner at the competitive drill on the occasion of the late soldiers’ reunion in Chicago.
