Remington Ravelings.
Work is progressing lively on Anglemire’s brick stone building. Rev. Thos. Meredith and A. J. Chambers former residents, made Remington a v isit this week. J, K. Shaw is getting the material upon his lot adjoining R. Purkei’s residence, on Ohio street, for a dwelling. Monday was a big day in Remington.— Everybody was in town with his wife and children. Jake and Mary Ann came too. Cause why—“ Warner & Henderson’s Great Combination Humbug was here. Big thing on show bills. At the Carpenter townshsp convention last Saturday, the following named persons were nominated for the township offices ; For Trustee, J. F. Irwin ; for Justices of the Peace, James Spencer, and J, Misner ; for Constables, Fred Stifler and W. H. Pierce. A very pleasant and interesting gathering came of at Ben Walker’s, five miles southeast of Remington, on last Saturday. It was the fiftieth anniversary of the weding of the father and mother of H. H. Walker, <-f this place, brother of Ben. Fifty years of wedded life unclouded by strife or turmoil ; and to-day the aged couple are bound closer together in heart and hand than when they started—half a century ago. Some twenty-five of the relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Walker seniors, were present, including a brother from New Orleans and a sister from Illinois. Thq reminiscences of boyhood days were amusing to the younger portion of the company and doubtless made the old people feel young again for the time. Mr. Walker Is 75 years of age and Mrs. Walker; 71. What changes .have transpired since that day fifty years ago, when they started on life’s journey together. How many of their then associates are living to-day ? Heaven bless the couple, and may the remainder of life be as peaceful and serene as the fifty years gone.
