Camp Livingston upgrading for 2004 summer season
CINCINNATI —Many people believe that the middle of winter is a quiet time for a summer camp. But Camp Livingston, the Cincinnati Jewish community's co-ed resident camp in southeastern Indiana, is in the midst of a major makeover. While preserving its decades of tradition, the camp 60 miles from Cincinnati has construction crews busily making major upgrades campers will begin enjoying in summer 2004. The changes will include
a refurbished air-conditioned recreation hall (commonly known as the Beit Am), two new cabins, a refurbished kosher kitchen facility, and inauguration of the Jacqueline Hirsch Brown Equestrian Center, a state-of-the-art riding center with an indoor and outdoor ring. "These construction upgrades are the final phase of a long range plan that was generously funded by The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati, The Rockwern Foundation, and a highly successful capital cam-
paign by Camp Livingston's board of directors with the assistance of our local Jewish Federation," says director Andy Brown. The once small regional camp has increased its capacity from 300 to 400 beds per summer, and many programs have waiting lists. "This year's early registration numbers are significantly ahead of where we were at this time in past years," said Diane L. Slovin, president of the board of directors. Our professional staff, Brown, as-
sistant director Brad Chotiner, and camp administrator Susie Sheldon are hard at work planning for what promises to be a great 2004 summer. "The new facilities are wonderful," Slovin added. "We are working on many new and exciting programs for this
summer, and the campers are going to love them all." Contact Andy Brown at 1 -888-564-(CAMP) 2267 with any questions regarding Camp Livingston. Or call the Camp Livingston office at 513-791-5554 to receive a brochure or preview the camp video.

NEW YORK—Jewish college students seeking adventure and a chance to help others are being invited by the International Jewish College Corps of American Jewish World Service to find it on three continents. The organization says college age people or recent graduates can apply to work and study in Ghana, Honduras, and Ukraine this summer. The program runs three weeks in Ukraine, four in Ghana and Honduras. The program, in its sixth year, begins with an intense, seven-week cultural immersion experience that weaves together in-depth exploration
of international development, study of social justice in a Jewish context, and humanitarian service. Specifics of this summer's service projects will not be firmed up until the spring. Last summer 15 students went to Ghana to help build an elementary school, and another group journeyed to Honduras to build a potable water system. At the end of the fourth week, both groups met in Ukraine where they worked with the Hillel students from Kharkov, restoring a Jewish cemetery and learning about Jewish renewal in the former Soviet Union.
