‘Fabulous Fifties’ returns to ACT

Hanukkah 5764

American Cabaret Theatre will kick off its new 2004 season in January with the return of the ever popular audience pleaser "The Fabulous Fifties!" A look back at America's favorite decade, this musical tribute to the golden age of television and the birth of rock 'n roll is a nostalgic trip for the audience. The show will begin its run on Friday, Jan. 9. Act One, Your Hit Parade, centers around the shenanigans of the program's greaseball stage manager, Spaz, while it parodies popular musical television "chart shows," recreating all the quirks and mishaps of live television.

Act Two, At the Hop, features the wise-cracking, fast-talking DJ Teddy "Big T" and focuses on the music of such groups as The Five Satins, The Everly Brothers, The Kingston Trio, and the Taffetas. To reserve your seats for the show that was called "hilarious" by The New York Times, or to purchase an ACT subscription (at discounted prices through Dec. 25), phone 317-631-0334 or 800-375-8887. Single tickets are priced from $22-$30. You can also visit ACT online at www.americancabare ttheatre.com.

With these words humanity was introduced to an awareness that not only illumines the path of life's journey but also enables us to understand the difference between good and evil. Evil lives in darkness because of its ugliness. Evil crawls on its belly because it cannot walk upright. Evil hides behind a cloak of invisibility because vision is its enemy. Good requires light so that everyone can see the splendor that it represents. Good is the indispensable ingredient

toward fulfillment. Good demands a great deal of effort because it is needed to eradicate our inclination to be evil. Hanukkah helps us understand this eternal struggle. The emphasis should not be on military might or the ability to wage war. The concentration should be on the transformation of a local religion to one with universal appeal. Hanukkah represents the globaliza-

tion of the understanding of God. The light that emanates from the menorah is the light of the true meaning of the relationship between God and humankind. Hanukkah comes at a time when darkness surrounds us. The days are short. The night is long. It is cold, and the harshness of winter is upon us. Life withers. We sleep. And some Contimted on page 72
