By SARAH YAEL The religious dedication of one woman helped lay the foundation for the traditional Jewish community in Louisville, Ky. nearly 50 years ago. The determination of this woman also spearheaded the AMIT (Mizrachi) Women's movement in the Midwest for close to half a century. Projects of hers included helping to create the Louisville Jewish Day School (Eliahu Academy), being on the first Board of Trustees for the Jewish Nursing Home (Four Courts Senior Center),

and supporting Congregation Anshei Sfard Synagogue. This woman is Bess Harris (Mrs. Sam Harris). Mrs. Harris has dedicated her life to Judaism, including leading various tours to Israel for many years. She and her husband, Sam, z'7, are also the name sakes for a synagogue at Gould High School in one of AMIT Women's villages in Rehovot, Israel.
