Continued from page 17 Viewing his art as a gift from Above, David has always felt the value of his efforts comes from his ability to reach people in a contemporary way with the important and meaningful understandings of our biblical heritage. David feels his art is like a “visual mezuzah " in that it is something that is placed in one's home as a reminder of God's presence in our lives. From the public premiere of Bruce David's spiritual art in 1983 until today, the Davids have exhibited his work around
the country, with great success, for various international, national, regional, and community functions, mainly for Jewish organizations. David's slide lecture has received an educational award from Hadassah, and his work has won praise from many art professionals, educators, and critics. “Mama Bess" and "Papa Sam," z"l, were some of the first people in the family to recognize and appreciate the value of David's newfound artistic talents. early years of his career, his grandparents encouraged and helped support the struggling artist. Both his and his wife's families have given them their love and support all along the way. David's mom, Esther David (Mrs. Artie David), has been very supportive and even travels with him on occasion to help with the exhibits. His uncle (Bess' son), Stuart Harris, is still very active in the Jewish community and has also helped the artist by commissioning a

In 1996, when David was back in Louisville to say Kaddish for the one-year anniversary of his father's (Dr. Arthur David, z"l) death, he was approached by members of Anshei Sfard Synagogue and commissioned to design three large stained glass windows for the synagogue's educational wing. Another synagogue in town, Keneseth Israel, quickly followed suit and commissioned him to create an eight-foot window for their sanctuary.

In 1998, and again in 2000, David designed and oversaw the fabrication of two large round glass mosaics, the second of which is five feet in diameter and contains between seven and 10 thousand pieces of glass. Early in 2001 a commission allowed the artist to produce a six-panel stained glass window for a family in Kansas City, Ks. Recently he produced an edition of porcelain collector plates, and this year he completed another glass mosaic commission, based on the Jonah story, and a kaleidoscope using his art images. Currently David is working on a series of windows for a synagogue in Howell, N.J.; other projects include a small edition etched glass seder plate and additional stained glass window and mosaic designs. A commissioned Haggadah is also in the works, featuring David’s art and writings. The love and importance of Shabbat is something that "Mama Bess" Harris has instilled in her grandson. The fact that the Davids are Sabbath observers has caused
