By CHARLES EPSTEIN "Greetings, Indianapolites." That's what Dame Edna calls Indianapolis residents. They also reside in "Indianapolatia." Dame Edna is the star of "A Night with Dame Edna." She
was absolutely fantastic at the Murat Theatre, which shook with laughter every time Dame Edna spouted her hilarious insults. Even her victims seemed to adore her by the time they left, as she finished her performance hurling gladioli to them and others in the audience as accurately as she had fired off her insults at them. The show is written by Barry Humphries, who also wrote the songs, lyrics, and music. Humphries also is Dame Edna, an international star who has had her own TV talk show, one-man shows, and has guest starred on numerous television productions, including "Allie McBeal." Humphries is not only an accomplished character actor in Europe and Australia, he is a successful landscape painter.

Educated at the University of Melbourne, Humphries has appeared in many stage musicals. The versatile actor has been seen in quite a few films, and many familiar international performers consider him/her a friend. "A Night with Dame Edna" is mostly an audience participation presentation with the Dame interviewing many of the patrons. She has integrated many local sites into her dialogue, such as Carmel, Broad Ripple, Speedway, Haughville, and especially Massachusetts Avenue, where you can meet many of her son's acquaintances.
One female member of the audience said the 69-year-old actor had better looking legs than hers. During one performance Dame Edna mistakenly said Minneapolis instead of Indianapolis. The audience participant correctly brought this to her attention. Dame Edna was stunned. She turned to her piano accompanist and inquired if this was true. The pianist confirmed she said Minneapolis. The perfect Dame was horrified because she prides herself on the additions to her dialogue, the local bits that get many laughs. It took a few moments for Dame Edna Continued on page 6
