Another impressive dinner was that of the Educational Centers in Israel of the Rabbinical Council of America, celebrating 51 years since the founding of Yeshivat Hdarom in Rehovot. Added were Gan Yavne Youth Village, Yeshivat Or Hadarom for Diaspora youth, Moreshet Yaakov Hesder Yeshiva, Eretz Hemdah Institute for Advanced jezvish Studies, and Bnei David, pre-military mechina. ing visitors from abroad. This show of support is an important indication of world Jewry united with Israel in withstanding terror attacks, the latest of which was a terror attack on Friday night by two terrorists, dressed in Israeli army uniforms, upon the Yeshivat Heder at Otniel, south of Hebron, killing four students and wounding six. One student gave up his life to save others by locking the entrance door to the dinner hall. This was yet another terror attack on the Sabbath and Holidays by Jihad Muslims, who lack not only respect for religious observances, but rather enjoy killing the Jewish "infidels." 1 heir declaration is a continuance of terror until "all of Palestine is liberated." Our security forces have been successful in intercepting virtually all of such terror attempts by pinpoint destruction of the leadership and by arresting suspects. However, here and there, terrorists slip by, usually at night, and manage to attack. All attackers are killed, but we suffer casualties. Despite pressures by the Quartet (the United States, the liuropean Union, Russia, and the United Nations) the Palestine Authority is unwilling or unable to stop terrorism This stalemate will probably continue through the Knesset elections on Jan. 28 and probably through the war with Iraq in February. We will continue battling terror unabated. An attractive, rather unusual, function was the 32nd annual dinner of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, celebrating its 100th birthday held at the Inbal Hotel in Jerusalem. This gala affair was honoring "Shaare Zedek's Women of Valor - 100 Years of Service," quoting the recitation of every Friday night: "She opens her
yesteryear, Shwester Selma, was shown. She died at the age of 100. During our term as board chan man, we had occasion to meet her and exchange some thoughts with her. Shaare Zedek was her entire life. She lived and died there. The "Ot Hanagid" Award of Merit was conferred upon the Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven, former prime minister of Great Britain. She acknowledged the honor with great appreciation and praised Shaare Zedek as the true symbol of public medical service to one and all. Director General Yonatan Halevi made the presentation. He also thanked all who came to enjoy this occasion. Another impressive dinner was that of the F.ducational Centers in Israel of the Rabbinical Council of America, celebrating 51 years since the founding of Yeshivat I Idarom in Rehovot. Added were Gan Yavne Youth Village, Yeshivat Or Hadarom for Diaspora youth, Moreshet Yaakov Hesder Yeshiva, Eretz Hemdah Institute for Advanced Jewish Studies, and Bnei David, premilitary mcchina. Yesivat Hadarom Award." Awards were presented to Rabbinical Council of America Israel Branch Chairman Rabbi Binyamin Walfish and to us as dinner chairman. Director General Zvi Moshe Galinsky and his deputy, Rabbi Elchanan Lipshitz, were outstanding in their dedication and in the development of these excellent educational institutions. Major welcomes greeted "birthright" youth arriving at Ben Curion Airport. This group of 400 was from Canada. They are part of 5,000 arriving now and to be followed by 2,500 more in January, coming from the United States, Canada, South Africa, South America, Australia, and Europe on 10-day tours. Birthright Director Shimshon Shoshani was very pleased by the response. He stated: "The fact that 7,500 youths are participating this winter means a lot. It shows that there are still many Jewish families in the Diaspora who are ready to support Israel right now." Please keep them coming— the more the merrier!
