Albert G. Reuben was businessman, community R ub y Schahet was leader, philanthropist community leader

Albert G. Reuben, Indianapolis, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was a commercial real estate developer in the Midwest, owning and operating shopping centers, motels, and numerous other businesses, including the Alsco Aluminum Corporation, Kentucky Fried Chicken, American Janitor Corporation, and the Holiday Inn-Downtown, Indianapolis. Reuben was a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, executive board member of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, past president of Park Regency, past vice president of the Jewish Community Center, a Hadassah associate, 50year member of Monument Masonic Lodge F and A #657. In 1995 his gift created the Indianapolis Holocaust Memorial Garden; recently, he supported establishment of the Albert and Sara Reuben Senior Resource Center. He was a contributor to Hooverwood, the Bureau of

Jewish Education, the Indiana University Jewish Studies Program, and other local, national, and international groups and organizations. He was a board member of the Indianapolis Board of Realtors, member of Indianapolis License Review Board, member of the State of Indiana Civil Defense Advisory Council, and member of the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels. Survivors include his wife, Sara Rifkin Reuben; daughter, Elaine Reuben; sons, David Reuben and Lawrence Reuben; one granddaughter; two sisters, Ruth Burroughs, MD and Dorothy Krasne; and brother, Ronald Reuben, MD. Burial was in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary handled the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah Center for Emergency Medicine, the Bureau of Jewish Education, or Bom Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University.

Ruby Schahet, Indianapolis and Palm Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 21. She was a graduate of Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, Hooverwood Guild, a life member of Hadassah, member of National Council of Jewish Women, former board member of Methodist Hospital, and past chairman of Women's Division of Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis. Schahet took part in the first all-women mission trip to Israel through the United Jewish Appeal. She was instrumental in the formation of the Practical Nursing Association and was a member of T.C. Steele Second Century at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In California she was a

volunteer and committee person at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage and a volunteer and board member of the Desert Art Museum in Palm Springs. She also was a board member of the Women's Division of Jewish Federation of Palm Springs. She was the widow of Sam Schahet. Survivors include her son, Gary N. Schahet, and two grandchildren, Greg and Lisa Schahet. Burial was in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery North. Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Meridian Hills Mortuary handled the arrangements. Sylvia Silbert is mourned Sylvia Silbert, 92, died on December 20 lh . She had lived in Shelbyville for many years before moving to Indianapolis 10 years ago. A homemaker, Silbert was a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, a life member of Hadassah, and serv ed on the board of directors of the Salvation Army. A longtime volunteer at Major Hospital in Shelbyville, she was a member of the Shelby County Garden Club, Shelby County Medical Society Auxiliary, and the Community Concert Association of Shelbyville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David Silbert, and is survived by two sons, Michael Silbert and Dr. Robert Silbert, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah or Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.

Simon "Si" Steinberg, 96, died on Friday, Dec. 13. Formerly of Columbia, Mo., Steinberg was a training officer in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He was the owner of a women's ready-to-wear store until 1964, after which he served as promotions manager for Riback Supply Company in Columbia. From 1949 until 1964 he taught at

Pearl Riskin, 93, of Indianapolis, died Dec. 18 at Community East Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, Beth-El Zedeck Sisterhood, Hooverwood Guild, and a life member of Hadassah. She is survived by a son.
