GOALS: To further Judaism and Sephardic traditions and customs. HISTORY: Organized in the 1920s, Etz Chaim was originally called the Sephardic Community of Indianapolis and was established on the south side of Indianapolis. The original facility was located above a grocery
store. It was then moved to an old former church at the corner of Morris St. and Church St. In the 1960s, Etz Chaim moved to its current location (a former Lutheran church) at the corner of 64th St and Hoover Rd. It is an Orthodox synagogue that incorporates Sephardic traditions and language into its
services. TYPES OF ACTIVITIES: Numerous social activities including July 4th picnic, various dinners throughout the year, and of course, services both Friday evening and Saturday morning. HOW TO JOIN: Membership chairman is Irving Levy, 255-0567.

GOALS: To provide a forum for women of the synagogue, provide support to the synagogue, and keep the Sephardic customs and tradition alive with the
coming generations.
HISTORY: The Sisterhood was founded in 1915, and our third generation has carried our goals to this present day. We have donated a room to Hoover-
wood and have donated to
many other charities.
TYPES OF ACTIVITIES: The Sisterhood prepares and serves Oneg lunch every Shabbat, and holds a yearly Bake Sale as a fundraiser. We sponsor the development of the distribution of tapes worldwide in American Sign Language to provide information and education to the Jewish
hearing-impaired community. We are in the process of documenting the burials in both of our cemeteries to be placed on-line as part of the International Jewish
Cemetery Project.

monthly.
